Would it be possible to take a photograph or two of the fouling on your boat, need only be mobile phone, and tell me where the boat has lain for the last season, so we can work out what type of fouling is occurring and where.

Please include whether this is a swinging mooring or a pontoon, drying etc.

Now, this is not a 'compare your antifouling' exercise, but is a good indicator of what type of fouling occurs in each area up and down the East Coast.

Please either post your pics here, or you will find my email address in my profile if you prefer to send them.

Many thanks if you can help.

Hi Jim, Iam at bridgemarsh boat out of the water now ( no photos) when lifted end of october I had about 5" of weed hanging like a forest, John said it was the worst he had seen, also a fair amount of barnicals. The antifoul was Plastimo which had no effect at all.
Your boat was lifted recently and your in the same marina did you have the same fouling?
ps will pick up pump when our paths cross , regards Stuart.

Bit hard to tell what has been going on. 5 weeks in Holland (which may have been weed free) followed by 5 months hardly moving from the marina due to personal circumstances. Boat pressure washed by yard so I judge it by the weed under the strops - nothing, just very slight slime. Used Tiger Xtra. Last year a carpet of weed after using Flag. No photos sorry.

We dried out alongside the pontoon at Bridgemarsh last weekend. I don't know if Gordon took any photos, but I'll send them if he did. There were no barnacles except on the prop, plenty of slime and quite a lot of tufts of a hairy weed, about 3in long, which scraped off very easily (and would have pressure-washed off). The antifoul was one of Biff's standard Hempel ones, I think. We've been in the water since February last year.

Sorry no pic of boat.
Used "seajet" antifoul last season.
Swing mooring on the Blackwater/Millbeach.
After 7 months at mooring no weed to speak of just layer of barnies where she lays in the mud when tide out.
Bought Seajet again for new season lets hope same result..
Hope this helps...

Thanks for all the replies.

We are really interested in the species of the growth, and where it is (in relation to the chart, not the boat)

So any photos of boats in your yard would also be good.

Thanks to all for the emails as as well.

yeah but you're only afloat 4 hrs a day :D = 28hrs a week

or 784 hrs a season (roughly);)

Sorry, no photo (it was truly a horrible day in November when we were lifted), but I hope this is of use:

Swing mooring, Salcott Creek, W. Mersea. No mid-season lift. Diver 3-4 times a season. Compass standard eroding a/f.

On lift out each year, there's always a moustache of fine weed about 1-2 inches long around waterline, small patches of barnacles in the 'dark' places, and tan-coloured 'twig-like' growth on the propshaft (not a/fouled) as well.

This year there was less weed, fewer and smaller barnacle patches, and no 'twiggies' at all.

Hope this helps.

You can have a sample, still got some on the keel! This is Salcott Creek again, same diver as Rudolph. Shogun, three scrubs. No barnacles, small stuff is early weed growth.

Boat spent most of the year in Suffolk Yacht Harbour and sailing locally.

Antifouled with Hempel Ocean Performer.

lifted out 2 weeks ago and just a thin layer of slime that washed off easily. No other obvious growth except a few barnies on the prop.
