Would a boom horse look out of place on Dufour24

For some reason I cannot think of Bouba without thinking of Ourman in Habana,in a dirty white blazer and Panama😟
Dirty yes but white ducks and jacket even dirty is a stretch. Here he is I took this quick snap without him knowing. It may help other forum members in making up their minds as to whether they should visit him. It doesn't show up the flies or pong though which one should be aware of.

I think the dog may chase him off😯

Whilst gardening the idea of a proper boom crutch came into my head.On the Dufour 24 there is no facility fora cockpit cover that an be used to afford shade.I was thinking that an under boom cover from the mast tothe end of the cockpit would be a good idea but there is only one backstay. With a full beam boom crutch if that’s the word would provide somewhere to spread out the cockpit tent although unfortunately as the boom stops mid cockpit some extension could be arranged.Over the boom involves getting round topping lift and lazy jacks.

Neigh, lad.

I used to run a length of wire from the mast to the end of the Boom. fitted with a bottle screw tensioner it didn't have be bar taught, just enough to take the sag out. The wire acted like a Ridge line in a tent for the cheap tarp rigged over it. Edges of the tarp were secured to the cockpit guard wires. I think the sun ate about three of those 10 Euro tarps in the Med before I got a bloke in Truro to make me a canvas one during a winter back in England ( Sorry Kernow...:ROFLMAO: )

If you are willing to spend a bit of money, a cockpit enclosure is well worth having. Like having an extra room. The sides and back roll up when you need ventilation and when the weather is cool, roll them down and it's a nice place to sit and watch the world go by. We had a table in the cockpit and ate most of our meals there when in port or at anchor.

As you can see here, the boom on my Twister was quite short but that didn't matter as it played no part in supporting the enclosure, which was supported by a s/s hoop at the rear and the front zipped on to the spray hood.

Big +1 for a full cockpit tent. We spent far too much on one for the value of our last boat, and it transformed our use, and was actually worth every penny. When it's hot, and you want shade, roll up the back and sides; when it rains, zip up the windward side and you're still sitting in the cockpit enjoying the view while everyone else is hiding below. Cool evening? Zip up all round. You really do get an extra room, which is a very good thing on a 24 footer. Ideally, in Spain, I'd want a light colour rather than the blue of Poignard's pic.

While you're saving up for the cockpit tent, run a taut line under the boom, and bodge a sheet to make a sunshade. Sew tapes to the corners and stretch it across with strings to the stanchions.
