Hello,
I wondered if anyone knew what the quality of the Wifi is like there. Daughter has got to do a tuition session via Skype she has just told us. Coinciding with a good forcast :)

Cheers, Colin.

The signal is good because there are repeaters on the pontoons , its ok to stream music and seems to cope with BBC i player ok but it is fairly slow on downloads. I gave up the other day and tethered of my phone.

EE 4G is very good.

The bottleneck is where the system plugs into the Shotley Peninsula's not at all fast internet infrastructure

I'm a relative newcomer to Shotley, which must be part of the same infrastructure, and was able to stream the Cup Final and the Rugby Semi-finals pretty well. Have BT (Open Reach) installed Fibre to the local green distribution boxes?

Hello,
Thanks all for the comments. We stayed there last night. We are 10m and the cost was £35 for the night free Wifi and given a card so every 7th night is free. They are currently refurbishing the shower block but the temp portacabins are ok.
Very very pleasant and helpful staff.

Daughter had an hours extra tuition with a Chemistry marvel who lives in Wee Bonney and they Skype one another.
The connection worked ok for half an hour then packed up and so they finished off via the telephone no drama so MDL's Wifi is ok but has limitations. No BT hotspot signal at all. EE worked at half sig strength in the cockpit.
So all in all we coped great and if you have your cockpit facing West as we did then you will struggle to find a better sunset so all in all v v happy. We will go again even though were only in Ipswich.

Cheers, Col.

I gave up with most marina wifi some years back and I now use an unlocked Mifi device with a 3-Network SIM, which you can buy prepaid pretty cheaply. I find this combination gets a pretty good and usable signal almost everywhere on the East Coast including, IIRC, Woolverstone.
Not that I shall be in a rush to go there, not at £35 for a 10m boat. That's verging on extremely unreasonable in my opinion!

we last went there 18 yrs ago, when Deben based, offered the 7 night free deal. At £20 (18 yrs ago ) for 11 m we declined & have never been back
