Woodbridge tidemill

Does anyone know the score at Tollesbury?
Was in Tollesbury last week. Business as usual with showers in the clubhouse. Clubhouse doing food most days, with some tables outside, but you have to book. The new shower block, which was due to be finished in June is now 3 months behind schedule.

Note that they are seriously behind with dredging. Lots of drying patches when the tide went out so ensure you close all seackocks beforehand. If that is a problem to you it appeared that pontoons A and B had best depth.

It's always been bad for silting up, and they don't do anywhere near enough dredging. Add to that the predominance of liveaboards, and there's no wonder depth is a problem! I know quite a few people who have left the marina for that reason.

Ransgate- toilets and showers largely open. In fact mens all open, but women's showers 50% shut. I'm now in France where it's pretty much business as usual, one or two places make an effort by taping off some of the urinals, and Boulogne have chosen July as the month when they remove one of their pontoon for replacement! Apparently all works will be completed by 1st August.

Ironically, the dredger was moored in the middle of Tollesbury marina (just for show, I guess)

It is to do with the difficulty of maintaining “social distancing” and possibly the very frequent cleaning needed. We are enjoying a pleasant visit to the Tidemill right now, Showers are very pleasant if available , but last year on the Broads we probably only found about 4 places we could get one in 3 weeks. A strip wash in the heads just has to do as we don’t have a shower on board.
Social Distancing required, you do jest Kind Person, how more social distancing can one be than in an enclose shower cubicle on ones own, fresh clean water to wash with, own soap etc, its what we all should be doing; If the Gents and Womens Showers have seperate entrances plus wall between them, its about the most distancing and barrier possible, surely ?

I was only quoting the Marina spokesperson who I spoke to on the phone, please don’t shoot the messenger.?
In fact talking to one of the chaps in the office this morning when we were leaving he mentioned that it was the berthholders who were opposed to the re-opening of the showers and toilets!

If you can manage to get into the shower block without touching door handles, get into the cubicle without touching door handles, get into the shower without touching the curtain or door, hang your clothes up on a surface that everyone who used the showers previously since they were last cleaned hung theirs up on, then get out again without touching the aforementioned, it's a great place to be.

Personally, i can't manage to do it without touching all of those things and my clothes and towel hang on the back of the door, just like everyone else who used the showers that day, so 'll give them a miss, thanks all the same.

Just returned from a week or so on the boat with my wife, who doesn't usually visit, but all our planned holidays had been cancelled so a week on the boat was appealing to her. Only used the heads and shower on the boat, but I seem to have been refilling the water tanks very frequently! My good lady likes long showers!

At Brightlingsea at the mo where I am told they have brand new showers. Oh and superb fish and chips at the Yachtsman pub.
Hi Peter, indeed they have, they are opposite the Yachtsman and on the right hand side - very simple but clean and spacious and rather good.

West Mersea had no visitor facilities open but then again we were not charged for our overnight mooring. YC1 helped to find a mooring but it still is only taking members, not visitors, so you need your tender.

More importantly is the yacht club open and receiving visitors seeking food?

doing the obvious, I see that there is some info here: Club re-opening info page – West Mersea Yacht Club
but no comment re visitors (and an expectation that you will have a membership card...)

Ah its the same then as entering any Shop, Restaurant, Cafe, Police Station, Yacht Club, one uses the Doors, Door Handles, etc etc; but one uses disposable gloves or tissues, as per normal with Public Facilities what ever they are {:-)# plus of course have a Hand Spray handy to use
The more persons and boaters that give'em a miss the better for the rest of us eh ?

Similar to the above establishments, but i suspect that getting undressed and hanging ones clothes on the veg display in Lidl wouldn't prove popular o_O

When i shop i sanitise my hands on the way in and on the way out, then wash them as soon as i get home and again after putting the shopping away. That is still possible if a visit to the toilets is required (sanitise hands on the way out, wash them as soon as onboard), difficult with the showers though, IMO. Did your clothes get contaminated by hanging them up, did you lean on the cubical side when getting dried/dressed etc

Hi, no the WMYC is not open to visitors when we were there middle of last week, there are signs outside saying this. THat is what I was meaning by visitor facilities.
The chandlery is open (service at the door) and the cafe, Oyster shed etc are all open and lots of people are around.

The signs outside WMYC say ‘visiting yachtsmen welcome’ and they are. Lunch and bar service every day, dinner Friday and Saturday. You can pay by bank card. Covid -19 ‘distancing’ is in force and you will have to give contact details for ‘tracing’. Sadly the showers are not available as they are not allowed to be open yet.

Our launch cannot at the moment carry visiting yachtsmen as with ‘social distancing’ it can only run at half capacity and thus members have to wait a long time sometimes, so we can’t in all conscience have it full of visitors whilst members wait for ages.

The private ferry service ‘Lady Grace’ is running and so if visitors don’t have a tender they can use that.

Apologies then. We did look at the signs but sometimes you 'read' what you expect to see ! Both Mrs P and I looked at them and then walked on so bit of a surprise. THanks for the correction.
