Anybody with any tips on the correct connections for wiring a NASA Clipper GPS Repeater to a Garmin 128 GPS Reciever?

At present I have the repeater connected to the power supply with the message 'no GPS signal' The Garmin has 4 wires apart from the + and - . They are marked compass+ compass: nav+ and nav-. The Cliiper repeater has three connections - black- red+ and blue.
Also I have configured the Garmin GPS output in the setup menu to NMEA in / NMEA out.

Any suggestions gratefully received.

Yes, will look it out tomorrow. Too much of Smiths glenlovat to manage a coherant answer tonight. And watching the Bond film.

Works every time I switch it on. It also feeds a VHF.

The GPS must be set to the correct mode.

Sorry about that.

You need to connect the Blue wire from the Garmin 128 to the blue on the clipper repeater. At least thats the colour from the Garmin manual ...

Sorry - should've added that is from Pin 3 on the Garmin plug - use a multimeter to check that the colour is right!

if the wiring is ok, then try different setups for the comms, you have set it on nmea in/nmea out, you might have to set it for one of the other ones, can't remember which one as, not on the boat at moment and set it up 6 years ago, but it is compatable with the nasa clipper gps repeater

http://www8.garmin.com/manuals/82_OwnersManual.pdf

Found both manuals for you to browse, you should be able to sort it out from the manuals, the garmin 128 is a little light on the comms bit, but have a look at one of the later ones, maybe the garmin 76 or 152, might give you more of an explanation..

Got exactly this set up. One odd thing to remember is that the repeater only works on magnetic bearings so you have to set the gps to magnetic with operator set zero variation if you want to receive true figs at the repeater

GPS Nav+ to the Nasa Blue wire, and Nav - to the Nasa black wire (along with 12v -ve!). Nasa red wire to 12v +ve.

Other than that just ensure GPS is configured correctly (sounds like it should be from what you've said).

Suspect if you've got the blue wire connected correctly you just need to put Nav - to the black wire on the nasa which also goes to 12v -ve.

I've not noticed that ... I use true all the way though on the GPS ... but I suppose it could be displaying magnetic - I'll check next time I;m down..
