Hi all I'm wiring a 240v double socket with 3 usb chargers on it. Then into a single switched socket. The previous wiring was emersion heater wireing 6 wires. Which I found to be odd 🤔 then going into a block connector then the red and black grey socket cable going into the trip switch. But any how I have NHXMH-J 3x2,5 cable would this cable be ok to use directly wired to the trip switch. It's appromatly 22 23ft run of cable. Into a 6amp trip switch as in the picture.

If i understand correctly, you now just want to run a 2.5mm cable from the 6a MCB to a double socket with USB connectors ?

If so, that' OK, providing the cable is flex, not domestic cable. But your 240v current will be limited to 6a, which isn't much. Might be worth swapping the MCB for a bigger one.

Thanks for the reply im also putting in a single switched socket too. Off the same cable. So I need 2.5mm flex instead of the standard grey 3 core cable in a house. What bigger amp mcb do you recomend.

Thanks

Your entire install needs rewiring, you should not be using rigid twin and earth like that on a boat, it should all be 3 core flex.

Your new socket with USB points wire in 3 core flex to the consumer unit and connect it to the 10A MCB or far better add a new 16A MCB in the spare position of the CU for that new socket.. It only needs to be 1.5mm no point using 2.5, it will never see more than 16A of load.

I would use 2.5mm flex and a 16a MCB. Adding the extra single socket will be fine.

EDIT : As Dave says in post #5, household wiring should be replaced with flex.

Thanks for the reply god knows why the previous owner of my boat installed the 2 sockets in such a way. He used 6 core immersion flex. Then wired it into a block connector then used the grey 3 core ridged wire to the mcb. Why not use flex all the way. I was baffled when I took the cable out good job I did a rewire.
Thanks lads much appreciated

Have a look at the rest of the wiring as one shortcut implies others. Take particular note of fuses/breakers, ratings and lack of them. Remember you need to fuse for the wire you install. The appliance will have its own fuse.

You do mostly fuse to protect the wiring, except for devices that can be overloaded, on a boat that's typically a windlass or bow thruster. In those cases, you have to fuse to protect the device from being overloaded, usually with a thermal circuit breaker.

Don't worry all my appliances will be fused on the boat.

Hi pro Dave so I should get rid off the grey cable too in the fuse box and replace it with 2.5mm² flex.
