Wire through pulpit

I have used mousing wire to push along inside the tube. Then when that has come through you can whip the wire you want to the end of it and pull it back through. If mousing wire won't go through then it's fully blocked up.

Not much help in retrieving the old wire, but I've had success in using a hoover to draw a messenger line through a pulpit before.

That’s a good idea. We picked our new to us boat up yesterday and it’s got this issue, a knackered cable in pull pit frame.

It will be a battle getting it out and think adding a mousing line will make it even harder.

The exposed part of the cable is brittle and gone stiff but it’s got to come out, I couldn’t live with a cable tie external solution.

Heat gun, silicone spray and possibly some harsh language…I’ll get it out!

Have you thought about drilling a couple more holes along the route of the cable. Pick a suitable "hidden" spot and drill up into the tube. Then hook out the cable in question. It may be catching in only one or two places and you can maybe get it out in sections. If you've been careful to drill in a suitable spot you could block the hole with a suitable sealant/adhesive and it won't be seen.

Yes, was wondering about that. That boat is not close so will have to wait. The one with the wires still sticking out has the pulpit off, so I'll give lubricant a go and report back.

Success! The one which had the wires still available to pull was flooded with Fairy Liquid for a few days. Today I tension both ends one at a time until it looked like the wire was moving. Then it pulled out.

Now just to work out what to do with the other one (which is still on the boat).
