Ok, thanks re fuel, think ive got a good idea on what to do..
Now need help for idiots guide to winterisation on a VP 5.7gsi, nice and easy for me!! first year blah blah! thanks in advance for posts..................

Drain engine oil when warm and re-fill with fresh, then run engine briefly to spread the oil around the engine. Change oil filter. Circulate a 50/50 freshwater/antifreeze mixture round the cooling system. Spray lots of WD40 on everything, particularly electrickery. Remove battery(s) to storage ashore and charge occasionally. Take off prop and grease everything. On the South Coast, it's debateable whether you need to do the antifreeze bit.

Personally, I reckon that's about it. All the other stuff can wait until the spring, though you can make a note of things (dodgy belts, anodes, change impellor etc.) that will need doing before you re-launch.

Need to know if your boat is raw water cooled or freshwater cooled.
If freshwater cooled you don't have to do anything for the block as it has antifreeze in. You may need to drain and clean out the heat exchanger and exhaust manifold though.

Mine is raw water cooled and I simply drain the block and manifolds as air don't freeze and crack the ironwork.

Some recommend fogging oil down the throat to prevent rust, I am just going to tape the all the engine ducts up to prevent moisture getting into the cyls in the first place.

As far as the rest, I just changed the oil and filters today, put Starbrite EZstart, EZstore in the fuel and ran her for 10 minutes afterwards.

When she is lifted out, the leg will come off for gimbal and UJ work, lube change and a new drive impellor fitting JUST BEFORE she goes back in the spring.

Why remove the prop?

[/ QUOTE ] Well - to be honest, so that some thieving toe-rag doesn't come along and do it for you. It's also a good idea to check that it will come off from time to time!

Although I can see where you're coming from on the subject of WD40, might I suggest that part of the re-commissioning process should involve checking that anything which might come undone hasn't? /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif I still think there's more risk of mischief from water in the electrics than there is from something coming loose.

All imho.
