We would like to winter ashore this year partly to give our hull a good going over and we may also want to remove the prop shaft.

We are booked into Marina de Saint Elmo until November but don't want to put the boat into their yard, they will not allow any DIY work, in fact it is difficult to get into the yard to even look at your boat!!

Their rates for work are very high and there seem to be lots of hidden extras (such as disposal of rubbish.

It looks like Marina del Sol are a little more laid back and we wondered if anyone had direct experience there.

Basically we are looking for :

Lift in and out with basic wash, 5 months ashore with permission to work on the boat.

Electricity by the day. Bring in our own engineer/surveyor if required.

Can anyone advise on this please.

You should try Bosa, about 42kms S of Alghero. Excellent yard with travel hoist, good rates, very professional and allow you to do your own work. I have the boat lifted there every year.

Here's an excerpt from the Sardinia page of my web site, about Cagliari:
Apart from the town quays and the yacht club, there are two privately run friendly marinas immediately to the east of the yacht club, just over a mile from the city centre. Marina Del Sole is the cheaper, rather idiosyncratic (some would say "chaotic") but very popular for wintering and for live-aboards. More expensive, Marina di Sant’ Elmo is efficiently run and restricts what work can be done on the boat. Both marinas have large hard standing areas, sailmaker and rigger to hand.

I get lots of inputs from readers of YBW and regular site users, and use these to keep stuff up to date. You'll see when the material was last reviewed at the bottom of each page. Your inputs welcome if you don't agree with the descriptions!

Lots more about Sardinia wintering possiblities at http://www.jimbsail.info/mediterranean/west-med/sardinia, together with links to web sites.

I will share my knowledge about these 2 marinas; but not just at this time!

I spent some months in Marina del Sole, but my experience is now three years old.

It fits all of your requirements:

Lift in and out (crane) and pressure wash, no problems working on the boat or bringing in your own people, electricity by the day - but you have to guard your connections against them being hi-jacked by other residents.

As Jim implies, del Sole has its devotees and its detractors. Its wc/shower facilities were basic (none in the yard), and you need to be dog-friendly since Antonello had adopted several of them. On the other hand the social/live aboard community was great and many Sardinians also kept boats and socialised there. For me the positives more than compensated for the "idiosyncracies" - as Jim tactfully puts it.

Hi

we are in a small yard in Abertax... we pay what we consider a very reasonable 100 Euro a month ( we have a small 10.5 Meter Gemini Catermaran )... it is as i say small and very basic, the lift in lift out was not exorbitant, and the guy who runs the yard is very friendly and helpful... not sure if you can live aboard in yard for extended periods... but if u want the details please PM me and i will send u his e mail... his English is poor.. so I hope your Italian is good... mine is not :)
