Winter storm this weekend

Hi again,

06Z model runs now in and starting to diverge a little (but the 06's tend to do that).

GFS now more in line with earlier UKMO, bringing the low over the Midlands at midday, and not as deep. This would certainly mean the winds would not be as strong as earlier predictions.

Ensemble is similar too.

Who would be a forecaster eh????

Simon

Just looked at the Beeb's forecast for the sound of Mull for Sunday. Rain,(as normal). Wind speed: 5mph. They have 20 mph forecast for Monday though.

Weekend weather, why not go for a drive?

On BBC NI news site they are featuring some guys who have made an amphibious Renault Laguna open top, they are planning to motor over to Portpatrick at the weekend. Could be some interesting video to be shot at the harbour entrance, but if they do manage to get there they should be able to drive it up the beach until the surf subsides.

Hi,

12 UTC run makes things a little easier.

UK Met Office NAE is still pulling a deep low through northern England, 50kt gusts to the south of it.

GFS is putting the low in virtually the same position.

Ensemble still keeping it a little further south.

UKMO still going for the system being deeper, think we'll stick with this one for now.

Keep watching!

Simon

Dont think I would bother with a Passage Plan .

Just popped onboard here expecting to see a few updates to this thread.............but nothing !!!!!!! Must all be out sailing har har.

Think it must be the calm before the storm here in Gosport. Not enough wind to even move my tell-tails & sea state like a mirror.

Simon is right about the weather. 0940 Sunday Chimet reports F8 gusting F9 S, with it being a sprig tide the bar will be interesting!

Well ... This morning it was wet and windy.made getting on board interesting!! Most of the time it was mid 30's but we had frequent gusts into the 40's and max was 46kts. Most interesting was around winner bank where we got the rollers in off the bar. Glad we where turning right up 2 emsworth! Safely tied up now and on our way home for a cuppa

We were in Gosport Premier last night. It was earily calm, with a huge halo round the moon. Went ashore to eat at Landers - don't bother - but thats another story.

Wind suddenly started to rise at aroudn 4.30 am plus pissing rain. We moved off to pick up our mooring at Hardway at around 10.15, and picked up the mooring - sods law just as the wind picked up to a steady 40 knots. Finally managed it after 3 goes, but got soaked in the process!

Wind speed less than 5 knots today, so far, plus the usual Wet Coast downpour. Interestingly the smoke from a couple of house chimneys, only about 200 metres apart, was going in 180deg. different directions.
