Winter project Relcraft 23 f/b

Having had boats with heads in compartments and those just in the cuddy, there is no way I'd convert a compartment arrangement to a noncompartment one...............so you are cooking breakfast and yer mate wants to take a.....no I dont think so.....and if you are trying to tempt ladies aboard...it can be the separate head that clinches the deal!!!!!

Can see exactly where you are coming from dpb as I have also owned boats in the past with seperate heads! though even in those boats I only ever used the heads for liquids and never solids, this boat will be the same...when at my berth the Marina toilets would be used and on the very occasional time I've needed to whilst at sea....well its a very big ocean and being rather tall does help :)
Jury is still out though.....
PS Already the cabin feels much more spacious with that cubicle removed!

I can very much understand it, tbh could have been much more/worse!

Headlings etc all gone!

Rob, what's that water stain on the corner pillar between the front and side windows? Rain water coming in from the window seals?

Gaping ugly gash where the Maxwell windlass once lived (that unit rotten beyond economical repair) and what a poor poor job of sealing when it had been fitted! I would have bedded the whole lot on a nice thick layer of sikaflex....as the new unit will be once sourced! no wonder there was lots of excess water getting into the anchor box.....

not impressed, was the norm on anything PO got his hands on MiToS  and anyway water comes in from the chain hole as well, so having a decent drain arrangment is a must.

Next weekend will find me removing the drive, and readying the engine for removal, so all in all progress is good and very enjoyable.... :)
Will update progress next week.
Rob.

good progress, looking fwd to more work/pics as for the next couple of months I wont be able to do much on mine, so it's going to be a watch fix rather :D

cheers

Hi Vas,

"Rob, what's that water stain on the corner pillar between the front and side windows? Rain water coming in from the window seals?"

Agreed it does look like a water stain, however it's resin drips, a 3/4" ply gusset had been added and glassed in at some stage in the boats life! to the exterior in this spot there is some star crazing to gel coat on the walkaround so I guess the strengthening gusset was added at a later date to cure what was probably flexing when heading up forward to deploy the anchor..

Rob.

thats the easy bit done.... now for some graft...
Rob, do you think I can visualise a colour scheme for the cabin?....can I f@ck!.....I'm hopeless when it comes to that sort of thing! I do keep going back to look at VW T5 camper interiors though for inspiration, simple and practical....bit like me lol...
Oh and you have some nerve telling me....now for some graft!....I mean with what you have coming up and all ;)

what you need is a woman/women... :D
apparently they are really good at this colour co-ordination bit... I know the feeling... am fecking useless at it myself... hence my house is magnolia and white :)
a week to go and should have a few ton of steel kicking about :)

Keeerist man!.....leave it out hey, just getting back to a modicum of normality after the trouble and strife and me decided to call it a day some 4 yrs ago!
Hence I go to work, I can go to pub, I can buy projects all with no hassle! Life is good, I'll keep googling T5's....lol
Rob
PS not sure if I mentioned in previous threads, but if you need any 50mm thick shipping grade plate (pre coated marine grade primer also) let me know!
I know a bloke who was involved with some major work on a couple of aircraft carriers and there was a bit surplus to requirements ;);)

This is going to be my solution to internal decoration, cover all GRP with real wood veneer:http://www.woodveneeruk.co.uk/products.php?cat=Iron on Veneer

Hi Rob,
Great progress and no real nightmares found :-)
A thought on the toilet arrangement, how about cutting an opening hatch in"V" berth area then a privacy curtain could be made to curtain off berth area when required which could also be used when sleeping.
Now stripped out i could see the benefit of an inside helm although already discussed. Pushing the galley back towards the old loo compartment and adding a window either side of the door would give a nice look too... the windows would be great when sitting at table being able to look astern.

Best wishes Geoff

Other than the internal helm, all great suggestions and well worthy of further thought, thanks mate..:)

Quick update...
No further pics until next week im afraid, however I can report that every thing that was due to stripped out has now been done, drive is off but props are seized onto shaft!....large pullers req I reckon!....
Engine came out quite easily with the aid of my friendly hiab man! Bilges need a damn good clean before painting, also need new hoses for the hydraulic steering and the power trim/tilt operation.
Radar arch is removed and will be modified to accept cables running internaly.
Hoping to make some good progress over the holiday period, hangover's permitting...lol
Will report back within the next week or two with an update incl pics.

May I also take this opportunity to wish you and yours very merry Christmas and hopes for a prosperous new yr...
All the very best from wales to wherever in the World you may be...Rob...;););)

Hi Rob,

Any updates/pictures?

No pressure, but technically it's spring now so as it was a "Winter Project" are we right in thinking that you're finished and out on the water? :p:D:D:D

Only kidding - actually just wondered how you were getting on....

Best regards,

Robin

Long story which I won't bore you all with!
Project has been stagnant since December, last job was when I pulled the engine out! Looking very much like my six month lease on the workshop which expires end of April is going to have to be extended by a couple of months!
Project gets back underway within the next fortnight (I hope)....
Will post an update in due course...

Rob, I see the Relcraft is on Ebay as a project. What happened?

Work is completely manic (no bad thing)!
But my Dad has been diagnosed with a serious heart condition, being 82 and living on his own it's down to me to see to his needs (quite rightly I must add)..
Hence no time whatsoever at present to even contemplate continuing the project, far better to shift it as is and come back to boating when my personal situation allows...
Thats life I guess.

Cheers,
Rob.

Really sorry to hear that, Rob and all the best to your Dad.

I appreciate the limitations of time - if all my spare time (and money!) wasn't being ploughed into our garden project I would be bidding!

Kind regards,
