Winter home for Centaur 2 on the Fal - local knowledge sought

Has anyone noticed the Rolex I have been sporting in recent videos? The meths manufacturers are also major branded content suppliers for my project as are Dunlop wellies, screwfix, flag anti-foul, Aldi and the dealers in second hand Nissan micras.

We recently had a family film night with "Back to the Future", enlivened by all shouting "PEPSI" every time we saw some.

I can't help feeling that the value of the KTL project will be diminished if the opinions are paid for and not genuine.

I don't like the portentous music either and it needs some text or narration - which is more or less what everyone else has said.
Apart from that it is good, I do like to see a map though and some form of introduction

the problem for me is that there was no narrative to it

just a series of well shot and well lit images

I am reasonably confident that I can get them a few more hits

but it is good that for a while they thought it was worth putting some effort into their promotional efforts

music is always a challenge - getting good free music is hard

but my films are made with music available on youtube

The problem is that every message needs a narrative - or to be associated with a narrative

I suspect they have already received double the hits since this has become a forum topic. It is the number of forum members having access to your films with a direct interest in the products. for example, if I wanted a new sail, before watching your film id have not known where to go, now its obvious. Jeckles Sails could well have has a noticeable increase. they might not have told you. Mylor or any other business that uses your films as a means to advertise a product may well see a massive growth in awareness, and this well could be capitalised in sales.

I think your income stream could be minimal compared to advertising revenue . some people will tap a payment, but in all honesty I bet 95% don't. The films are amusing, and interesting and I personally like the music, it makes the films. But the fact is the films appeal to a large number of grass routes sailors, I suspect the films have already done an awful lot for related businesses without any attempt.

I guess if two or three boat owners who normally take their yachts off the water for the winter got together they could combine forces, split the costs three ways and take one of their three boats on the Fal for the winter

sharing marina fees would make it cost effective - and driving could be shared.

Mylor is £204 per meter for the winter 6 months

I think that if there is anywhere in the Uk where winter sailing is doable for ordinary blokes then the Fal is it

I'm amazed at how much it costs these days, everyone with access to the water or a piece of riverbed has maximised their returns, and who can blame them for cashing in. I wonder if boat ownership is now just too exclusive. Mylor at £34/metre/month for the winter. I just remember and hanker for the olden days when I could lay a mooring in the river, or keep a boat on someone's beach, park no trouble, land fish even, and there were actual people living in Helford village. As Dylan says, Fal could be a very good place for intermittent winter sailing, with due regard for the exposed nature of some of the moorings, which is why some folk retreat to the upper reaches of the rivers.

I remember being in the Shipwright's as a grizzled old fisherman still in thigh boots and adorned with a glistening layer of mackerel scales tapped the barometer by the door as he left, with : "Set fair dahling" to the amusement of most of the clientele. But then, even the yachties were mostly down to earth folk and there was some mutual respect between them and the community.

I still think the fishermen of Helford could have got their quay, despite the non-resident 'wealthies' from London (spits!!) if only they had included a space dedicated to yachtie tenders and the like - could even have got EU funding for 'sport' related improvements! Opportunity missed.

Also consider a drying mooring at Mylor Creek Boatyard , just a mile up the creek fro Mylor Harbour (who'd have guessed) will cost about £14/m per month, (i.e. £84/m for winter six months vs quoted £200+ for MYH) - they also have swinging moorings. Home or Cockwells, wooden boat builders. Mylor Bridge village and the Lemon Arms pub in walking distance. Many of their drying berths seem to have electric leads to the shore outlets.

Joking aside you have yourself what looks like a lovely boat, well done!

Having sailed around Falmouth, The Helford and Truro river on a few occasions I envy you being able to enjoy all it has to offer for 6 months.

Hardly a quay, just a hard road along the top of the beach between the Shipwrights and the point, just higher than HW level with a short jetty and turning space at the end, which certainly would have been available and useful to anyone, for instance all those with outhauls for tenders along there could have driven and unloaded rather than climb down the bank at HW. At the moment they drive along the beach to their outhauls unless the tide's in.

my aim is to get a pontoon with power and when the weather turns really horrible then high tail it home again

It's a crying shame you were not here just a few years ago. Tregatreath boat yard, upstream in mylor which is now Cockwells was run by one of the true characters. Martin Heard would have made 6 months an absolute joy, his style was brilliant and I for one felt privileged to have known him. You and him would have hit it off, and as far as Ktl's concerned it would have made brilliant viewing.

Out sailing on the Fal today and ducked in to Falmouth harbour to have a break from the fresh easterly.

Is your boat moored near the Greenbank Hotel, saw what I thought was a centaur with in mast reefing , but no dodgers on the boat and a bit far off to gat a closer glimpse.

It's a crying shame you were not here just a few years ago. Tregatreath boat yard, upstream in mylor which is now Cockwells was run by one of the true characters. Martin Heard would have made 6 months an absolute joy, his style was brilliant and I for one felt privileged to have known him. You and him would have hit it off, and as far as Ktl's concerned it would have made brilliant viewing.

That is a shame - however, KTL is a moment in time - these places are the way they are as I arrive and see them. By the time I get back to Brightlingsea it will be a different place - one of the sandbarge companies I filmed on the Trent has now folded. The Thames Estuary is now covered in wind farms - when I came through in the slug there were hardly any there.
