I have lovely brass newport diesel... great pice of kit.. The only issue I have with it is that it takes 10 or 15 mins to warm up before it starts to heat the cabin.

To take the chill off the air in the morning if I can't be bothered to light it I also have a webasto blown air which takes air for combustion from from inside the boat and exhausts over the side but recirculates the heated air. I figure this way I risd the boat of damp air through the exhaust while still not having to heat cold air up all th time from the outside.

The two systems work very well.. I had them both on last night having taken a tumble into the marina (my first ever!) and dried my clothes and boots very quickly and this morning there was no condensation inside at all.

Best thing about the newoport is sitting in the saloon watching the flames dance.

Mine is fed from the main tank via a paiar of filters but uses a rather noisy little electric pump.

I think I probably have almopost enough head to work it by gravity, but it seemed to get airlocked all the time and getting air out initially was tough as the fuel line takes a wing route from the top of the main tank. I have been thinking about fitting a little outboard primer bulb to help with this so I don't have to listen to it chattering all night.

The other option is to find a super quiet pump.. any suggestions?

Regards,

Nick

I had mine installed by Krugers on our Moody some years ago, all done within a day - well worth the expense.

Cheers

I have just over 1 foot of head from my day tank to the heater. I use 10mm copper pipe. This works fine with no problems. I fitted the day tank cos I didnt like the noise of the little pump suppied.

Do you use the electric conbustion fan to get the heater hot initially. I find that It heats up very quickly if I turn the fuel to maximum and put a generous amount of meths in, wack the fan on full. The superheater then glows red hot in seconds

My blown air heaters circulate air in the boat. They take about half an hour to make any difference with both on. I find it is genarally better to not bother.

Yes, I use the blower... and you're right, it sounds like a blacksmith forge when the fuel is full.

I haven't tried mixing with meths... I thionk swmbo would get a bit upset.. she worries about me and fire.. *heehee*

How noisy was the Dickinson pump? The one I use at the moment sounds like a woodpecker on amphetimines...

If yours is about and is quieter, I'd be interested!

The other problem I have is that the chimnet gets very hot.. I think I will have to shield it for safety, but I want to get some air moving over it to take advantage of teh heat.

Do you have a fan of somekind to to push air over it the hot surfaces or rely on your blowers/convection?

I am geetting more and more convinced about the day tank option. How big is yours? *ooh missus*

Did you buy one ready made ala tempo or get it custom made?

I have a lot of space outboard of the heater that is doing nothing.

How far away froom the heater is the tank. What sort of shielding? I am thinking copper faced 1/2 inch ply sandwiching 1/2 inch fire retardant foam as the tank will be about a foot/18 inches from the heater.

I want to get one of these. I got the UK prices last week and was shocked at the £1000.

I am going to replace a drip pot stove which I consider very dangerous and connect it to the existing fuel line and flue.

What are the issues with importing from Canada? Do I make the order and wait for the bill or do Customs give me a call when the parcel arrives?

My pump has gone. Gave it away.

I don't have a fan to blow air over the flue, but I am considering moving the fan out of the galley and mounting that close by so I can blow air down towards the heads.

My day tank is 7 litres. I had a local s/s fabricator make it for about £30. It is mounted the other side of a bulkhead so there is no heat problem. I don't think you will need a very elaborate heat shield. I have some thin aluminium sheeting mounted 1 " off the bulkhead behind the heater. This hardly gets warm although it is nearly touching the heater

I ordered mine straight from Dickinson, with a price including carriage.

The carrier was DHL. About 3 weeks after the parcel arrives you will get a bill from DHL for vat and import duty. This is 17.5% and 2.5% respectivley.

make sure you order the flue, deck fitting, dress ring and H top at the same time.

I thought I could get flue pipe here easily enough but had no end of troubles, eventually got it custom made by fabricator

GSM start up

You can also buy GSM controlled switches that can be turned on and off from your mobile. Cabin owners in Norway use them to pre-warm them for cold winter weekends!
