Hello all, this is my first post. I'm actively seeking a Wing 25 sailing boat but they seem so hard to find. If anyone knows of a Wing 25 for sale, neglected and ignored or unused somewhere I'd be so grateful to hear about it. Very many thanks in advance. Dave.

What is a wing 25?

Going back some decades now, but one of my Dad's friends kept one at Hullbridge for many years.

I may be wrong, but I think she was a Van De Stadt design, with (by modern standards), a long, but shallow, fin keel, and separate skeg hung rudder.

A sweet looking little thing, that sailed nicely, and seemed to take hard weather in her stride.

Sort of a fin keeled Contessa 26, type of boat.

I'm still in contact with my Dad's mate. I'm sure he'd be happy to answer any questions if the OP has any. He was a keen family sailor, with frequent cross-Channel holidays (which seemed quite adventurous in the 70's).

Edit:

I just found this: Wing 25 archive details - Yachtsnet Ltd. online UK yacht brokers - yacht brokerage and boat sales

My memory is obviously playing tricks! Van De Stadt designed the coachroof and and deck (very similar to his Invicta), but Colin Mudie drew the hull (yes, I did know that, honest!), and she didn't have a skeg hung rudder, it was a spade (so not toofar out on that bit).

Maybe a better comparison (than the C26) would the Trident 24.

There were several incarnations of the Wing, Mk1's had the rudder on the back of the keel. Mk2 the keel was cut away & rudder mounted on a separate skeg. Mk3 was the same but they raised the topsides by approx 3" to give more headroom, you can tell these by a knuckle just below the sheer at bow & transom where the hull goes vertical to the deck joint.
I cant remember who built them originally but later ones were built by Island yachts at Canvey point around the mid to late 70's. When they went bust East coast motor launches built a handful as well.
Several were sold as hull only & home fitted out.
I built the very last one, when ECML went bust she was a bare hull & sat in the car park for a while, the place was sold for development & i bought her for a song. Put a wooden deck & cabin on her & made a hollow wooden mast too. I cut down the 3" topside extension & got the headroom back by dropping the cabin sole the same amount! Boat looked a lot better for it.
Aerandir was her name. Had some great times on that litle boat.

Thanks ..... it's good to know that my memory was working correctly on that point.

My Dad's mate's Wing was, I think, called 'Iphigenoa'. Anyone know if she's still sailing?

If she has a wooden deck & cabin with an elliptical wooden forehatch & wooden mast that will be her, pop a photo up & i can tell you for sure, she was built in my parents front garden in Benfleet & first launched in 84, Original engine was a volvo md5.

She still has mast, deck and garden have now been fibreglass, her cockpits getting the full refit this month. Systems not letting me post pics at minute
