The master plan was a slow weeks holiday with no forward planning…starting from my mooring at Ashmount the destination was Windsor ..

PICT0318.jpg

the crew was Myself and SWMBO my grandson Jamie and his g/friend Georgia…they had stayed on the boat a few times but to date had never worked a lock….so after some rope throwing practice it was on with life jackets and off to the first lock…

Just as we cleared the lock at Goring a narrow boat swung out off the moorings so even though we were heading for Pangbourne we swung in and took the mooring, as it was the last one available

Here was the view from the back of the boat

Next day we carried on down to Henly …where I was very inpressed the way a little boat swung alongside and took my £6 mooring fee before I had even stopped the engine….though I might add it was worth every penny..

The weather was very settled in fact so far it had been dry and sunny

Next day we were off to Marlow Park where the kids went swimming at the leisure centre

Then later that evening carried on to Borne End Marina where we had booked an overnight berth

By this time my motley crew had found their sea legs and where lassoing the lock bollards from great distances…pushing off the bows and fenderig off as needed …so pleased was I with their progress I gave them the choice as to whether they wore their lifejackets or not….

So we hit Borne End with a few in the local a game or two of pool and fish and chips

Heres a couple of pictures of a nice house and a useful narrow boat

Next day we set out for Bray and stayed there for lunch then off to Racecourse where we had booked to stay for 2 days…

Racecourse had a very narrow long approach and even though I never met anything coming towards us I wonder what it would be like on a bank holiday…anyway it was close to Windsor and the yacht club there made us most welcome…

We`d made it

Trouble was I had shot myself in the foot…it seems the shopping is very good in Windsor and I couldn`t get the girls to leave ..so I had a look round for a new home for Roanne and we found a 12 metre berth available at Windsor Marina…we had 2 months to run at Ashmount so I could give Byron plenty of notice ….so we went for it….

Meantime we still had 3 more days of the holiday so we decide to take a run down to Penton Hook…the main reason was the lad had been fishing every chance he got over the last 2 months but to date had caught nothing…

So of f we went and on arrival the kids settled in to a long wait

Then he gt one …

Followed by six more …

On the way back to Winsor it rained on us for the first time the whole holiday ..

But it was only light and as we locked through Windsor and tied up at our new home we were already looking forward to the next time….

We had a brilliant holiday …we were thrown out of a pub at Goring …we had a streaker on the towpath at Reading ….we had a restaurant at Henley that opened just for us….and many more. the week seemed like a month and we`re all looking forward to the next time…

Oops!! Nearly forgot ..here`s the obligatory wake shot….(Thames style)
