Hi there all,

I'm looking for someone to reseal all the windows on my boat - seamaster 23.

Can anyone recommend anywhere in yorkshire that may do a mobile service? I don't really want to take all the windows out and send them away

Regards

Jay

If you are good at DIY you can do a reasonable job yourself without removing any windows. Take a sharp scalpel type knife and cut out the old sealant. Then run a good quality mastic around the window. If you don't get the line as even as you would like, just spit on the mastic and gently with your finger smooth it over! Sounds disgusting but it works water does not! If you're not confident just try doing a small area where it leaks first time, it's easy!
Good luck

first i would find out if it is leaking glass side or between frame and boat.
if leaking from top prob frame/boat
if from bottom prob glass/frame
if glass side you can easy do job as medskipper say's but when you have cleaned out old sealant you need to clean glass/frame gap with glass cleaner.
i would also use masking tape on edge of frame and also on the glass 2-3mm away from the edge of frame to get a better finish to the sealant you are using.
it would be best to do this kind of work on a warm sunny day!
i could do the mobile service for you p.m if you wish.

Totally agree with this. Just another trick, use a masking tape frame on the glass and use black sealant. Wait for a while until it goes tacky (after smoothing with spit either on your finger or a small spatula) and then just pull the tape off and it looks like new seals. Would also clean the windows after cutting the old seals off with meths and allow to dry well. Done it on a precious boat and it lasted the remaining lifetime I had the boat (several years and never leaked). It's all down to preparation!!!!

For some reason hadn't seen this response before I wrote mine, basically the same thing. :-). DIY about £15 tops or have a professional if you don't feel comfortable doing it?
