My LM27's saloon windows are leaking slightly, and since a couple of them are fairly badly affected by UV damage, I want to replace them.

So here is my dilemma:

I removed one this evening to measure up the thickness of the perspex and the cabin side.
Perspex: 4mm
Cabin side: well it's about 6.5mm if I include the vinyl interior covering, however it has been fitted in such a way that it tapers away towards where the hole is cut for the perspex, so the fibreglass cabin side is more like 4.75mm thick on its' own where the flat part of the seal would butt up against it, then increasing in thickness as you move out from the edge of the aperture.

I have been on the seals direct website and looked at their Claytonrite range of seals, but can't seem to find something that exactly suits the above sizes.

My thought was to go for a seal that is 5mm for the cabin side, so that it is fairly tight where the fibreglass without vinyl is, and 5mm also for the perspex. The windows have a very slight curve to them. Would 5mm perspex be flexible enough? Also would the part of the seal meeting the cabin side be able to splay out enough to accommodate the vinyl covering (where it would be a 5mm gap having to stretch open to 6.5mm) without it making everything a bit too tight, including the filler strip that needs to be fitted to finally secure it all?

The gap between window and hole (the web size) is slightly less important as I can adjust the new perspex size to be slightly larger or smaller to suit.

The existing seal that I pulled out seems if anything to be all a little on the slack side, and I suspect that is why it leaks.

Has anyone any experience in using Clatonrite type seals that they would like to share?

Notice where you are. I would have a chat with Ian Thomson at QD Plastics in Dumbarton on 01389 762377. He will be able to advise not only on Perspex tints and thicknesses but also on seals.

Claytonrite seals are not really suitable for offshore use as they can perform pushed out by a heavy wave impact.
I had them on my Leisure 17 and replaced them like for like with ones from Seals Direct. I'd advise you to get an insertion tool as it makes the job much easier.
