Re my earlier post i think i've blown the 100amp fuse to my anchor windlass but haven't been able to locate it.
Does anyone know where the windlass fuse is located on a Bav39?

Thanks,
John

Don't know on a Bav39 - but a Bav37 it is behind the saloon back cushions on the starboard side mounted on the bulkhead that forms the front of the nav table.

Eitherway it'll be close to the battery - just follow the big cable up until you find a fuse or two!

Thanks- i've found it. It's actually only 63A which seems rather small. I've a 125A spare aboard which i'll fit, but where can i find a spare, spare??
Even better would be a resettable fuse - does anyone know where i can buy one?

John

Search ebay for Lewmar/Blue sea Circuit Breaker - not cheap. There are much cheaper ones under car parts section for hi-fi/audio use but I'm not sure about the quality/maximum wire size usable as most come from HK!

I use Carling Switched circuit breaker, various A values available.

The fuse isn't there arbitrarily... Its there to protect the windlass and the WIRING. 100A going through wire rated for 70A could melt everything and cause a short and a fire...
You wouldn't fit a 32A fuse in a plug for a lamp would you?

A good point.
All the 70A(ish) circuit breakers i've found from UK suppliers are for recessing behind a panel. I need a surface mounted CB. Blue Sea make them but the surface mounted versions only seem to be available in US.
Anyone know a UK source?

Photo of existing fuse attached.
The existing power leads bolt onto terminals on the fuse, so it's easy enough to remove the extg fuse and replace it with a surface mounted CB - if i can find something suitable?

Bluesea stuff is sold by Merlin - http://www.merlinequipment.com/markets/marine/

I have used them in the past without problems.

Personally I would not try to find something to fit the existing fuse holder. Also, this does need to be a good quality CB with good interruption capacity - those cables are very big and can suck a lot of current in a dead short. Unlike a fuse, a CB can weld closed under extreme circumstances.
