Windermere Speed Limit Enforcement

I notice that one of those convicted was Paul Jones of Southport.
I wonder if he's related to John Paul Jones, who was active in that area some time ago, and had a rather poor view of UK officialdom.

(I wasn't there, of course)

How did they obtain the names and adresses to prosecute them.

If approached by the Ranger did they not point out that the best option would be to smash their heads in as that only gets a few hours community service whereas exceeding 6mph gets you fines circa £450!

What are we playing at!!

Do not all boats on Windermere have gert big numbers on 'em which no doubt link back to name & address?
Correct

They can appeal on the grounds that the equipment was not calibrated to UKAS/NAMAS standards traceable back to NPL and as such cannot be enforceable in any British Court.

Ask any police officer about speed measuring devices.

A good barrister can win on appeal.
Unless it's one of these approve devices.

Or they can admit they did wrong, got caught and pay the fine. It's not like they were just a few mph over in any of those cases.

Sorry, I don't have any sympathy for anyone caught speeding on water or the road. Yep I've been caught myself in my car, I paid the fine, took the points, watched them disappear. If you don't want to get caught, don't speed, simples:)

I was up in Windermere on Tuesday and found it hard to understand why there are so many planing boats when thre is a well known speed limit. It would make much more sence to get a nice steel displacement cruiser or a Grand banks with a small engine rather than a 40-50 foot Fairline:confused:

Maybe the planing boats arrived before the speed limit did.....
Nope. Planing boats arrive weekly on transporters. It's 7 years since the speed limit was introduced.

There are some displacement cruisers now and some mobo pilots changed to sail. But there are still plenty of twin engined planing boats getting launched.

Well there's only one answer for it then.. I don't know :)

To confuse matters there are two official bodies monitoring the lake.
The Wardens have no responsibility for speeding any longer.
The Lakes Ranger does the speeding bit (but not very often).

They operate from different bases now.
