Went down to my boat the other day to find that last weeks gales (or a v determined thief!) have whisked the vane clean off the wind gear on top of the mast. The spinning thingy is still there, but the directional vane which I think sat on top of it has gone. Its a Simrad system - does anyone know if I can get a replacement vane on its own, or will I have to buy a complete new mast top installation (v expensive)?

Well if it's a Simrad Dataline system it's bad news. You'll find Simrad no longer support it, but spare parts (and repairs) are still to be had through Golden Arrow who are based in Poole. I enquired about a new masthead unit just last week to be told it's £240 plus VAT. It's the scarcity value of course.

Best of luck,

Unfortunately - yes it is the dataline system, so it looks like it might be bad news on the cash front (although I was expecting nothing less!).

Do yo have a number for Golden Arrow?

Thanks for the advice, by the way.
