Hi all,

Just an early warning for you concerning the winds in the English Channel during the bank holiday weekend.

Looks like the winds are going to be increasing through Sunday, and it will be staying windy on Monday as well. Speeds are likely to be around F6, and may well touch F7 at times in open waters, especially in the western Channel.

Obviously, check the latest forecast before you go, but thought this was worth highlighting early.

Cheers,
Simon

Thanks Simon, top tip. Although I suspect that many of the long weekend channel-hoppers will have left last night - hope they pick up this up from the routine broadcasts too!

We crossed the channel from Oostend to Burnham on Monday(went over 0600 Sat), it did pick up to a good F5 occ F6 NNE, the swell grew and was much larger than the 1.5m predicted.More like 3m at times off shore which gave some good surfing and SOG (13kn max)but did cause problems with my young crew.
The reports on the VHF were forcasting an F6 but it came a lot earlier than they had suggested.
It cought out a Thames sailing barge which hobbled in to Burnham yacht harbour yesturday with a broken mast.

Ps Thanks for the good work
