Yes, however don't expect too much speed wise / if you have to tackle a tidal flow.

I have an 8hp on a 26 footer, with a high thrust prop, and I get 4knots out of it flat out... Headwind or tide slow us down to not a lot.

I had a trident 24 with 6hp it was adequate, when I used 3.5hp it would work but up wind in F6 flat water it really struggled. If considering engine size and boats, I think weight and hull shape are too be considered as much as length.

Looking at your profile pic I would think you would be in the same shoes as the 3.5hp with the 6hp on a 27ft yacht. Once in open waters motor-sailing is surprisingly effective.

As others have said astern with exhaust through prop is a bit of a joke.

Tidal flow does not affect the speed of the boat through the water, just slows the bat speed over the ground.
