Wifi radar and iPad

As XDC says, we have Raymarine Quantum Radar connected by Wi-fi to an e7 plotter, and the e7 can then be repeated onto the iPad. Works well and glad don’t need to fiddle with the data cable down the mast.
But Raymarine kit is very version specific, and radar and plotter need to be compatible generations.

We have an iPad paired with a NSS 7" through the Navico WiFi. The NSS is at the helm and the WiFi allows the radar to be seen, and controlled, for example, in the galley. No issues - best thing since sliced bread. We fitted all the kit - worked out of the box. Now that we have the MFD at the helm and can roam with the iPad - we would not be without it now - and if wee had our time again would do the same.

My only complaint - our state of the art NSS is now old hat superseded by a number of generations of better MFDs, that might also be cheaper - don't know.

I suspect the OP is actually asking about something else - maybe radar to an iPad with no MFD. Talking with Navico - it is possible but you need to buy software from them (I also vaguely recall there was software on the net? but not for Navico's Broadband) - and I suspect its cheaper/better simply to buy a, waterproof, MFD with all the software embedded in it.

I admit to not being a software nerd - and maybe its easy.

Hi there,
we have a furuno first watch radar system that connects to our iPad via WiFi. The system works very well, and have found over the past two years of use to have no issues. The system allows you to pair two devices to the radar so if you want another set of eyes in a cabin you can do. The iPad is waterproofed using an armourX iPad cover and again we have been out in all weathers so I can attest to the waterproof cover working.

That is both impressive and surprising.

Have a YouTube link on me by way of apology

Thank you for you’re reply I shall research that right now. I have a Raymarine C120 getting a bit out of date now and is very heavy on Amps especially when using the Radar. Mike

My Furuno NXT radar with plotter works well with the iPad. The best use is to comfortably lie in my berth in a pitch black, rainy night and see how near the other boats in the anchorage are swinging.

I've not been keeping up to date on radar developments but if power is the issue then Navico's Broadband is an option. Unless;ess things have changed you would still need an MFD, but a 7" will use less power.

It all about compromises
