Soltron has something to do with everything. Did you see Star Wars well they say the Force is made up of metachloriens which are organisms that live in everything ...WRONG they called them metacloriens as they werent allowed to use the name Soltron.

Soltron is something to do with everything its what we are and what we breathe. Actually I think Ive breathed in too much, bye for now.

May the Soltron be with you.

I've been to New Zealand and you would only want to go once a day .

I just knew a five line explanation would not cover it......

See http://www1.pactide.noaa.gov/tide-explanation.htm
A two click excursion on Google gives you more physics than I know how to cope with!

Has anyone yet identified a place with only one tide (its not New Zealand, otherwise Captain Cook would have noticed)? Thats called an empirical argument....

Regards,

Keith

Here goes, yes the moon is the primary force the sun secondary. First lets consider just the earth, without the sun and moon the centre of gravity would be the centre of the earth and we would only have marginal tides caused by the wind and atmospheric pressure. Now add the sun and moon into the system the centre of gravity of the entire system is no longer the centre of the earth it is displaced towards the moon but is still inside the earth. On one side of the earth the force is the pull from the gravitational centre to the moon and on the other the force is from the gravitational centre to the earth crust. Both these forces are the same hence the bulge on both sides of the earth.
Note the bulge is not moving (much) but the earth revolves through the two bulges every 24 hours.

My part of NZ has two tides a day as does everywhere else in NZ (I'm pretty sure). I recall reading some years ago that around the north of Australia and parts of the tropical Pacific that there are two tides but one is much smaller than the other. It was attributed to seabed form, but that knowledge may have been superseded by later research.

Re: nah?

The reason for there being two tides in some places, 4 in others and 1 somewhere is is very simple. This is what I have distilled from the thread so far:

All around the world are a number of blokes called Barry. These Barry's spend a lot of their time mooning each other and laying in the sun. Twice a day a group of them get together int he local Barry Centre (a kind of open house) and then collectively leap into the water. This sends a great big bulge of water around the planet. You've seen cartoons when a fat person dives in and empties the pool? Its the same thing.

No places like Poole have two rival Barry Centres who both jump in twice a day but at differrent times.

Places liek New Zealand have a low popuulations of Barry's and hence can only muster enough to do the leap once per day.

Spring tides occur only in the spring when the Barrys are extra enthusiastic about the coming summer. This only happens twice a year (once in the northern bit and once int eh southern bit not every month as per the usual yachtie propaganda. They only talk about spring happening so often cos we are eternal optimists You'd have to be to own a boat.

Now we get to the role of the medi-chlorine. As you can expect with so many large unwashed men jumping into the water the water needs to be disinfected, hence medi-chlorine.

As for the sky being blue, the obvious answer is to mirror your beautiful eyes Pauline

The Barry Centre is also new shopping mall in south Wales.

Happy Easter!

Re: effect of cloud

I think you get much greater tidal ranges, Pauline, based on the fact that in the UK where it's often cloudy, tidal ranges are quite large, whereas where it's sunny a lot of the time, like here and in the Med, there's hardly any tidal range.

no tide in florida, med

Hmm. Can't undersatnd why these scientifically proven bulges give Florida a miss. I wd've thought they should get a tide or two no question at all, esp near to the atlantic with it's obvious bulging propensity.

What does it say in the tidal charts I wonder? They're usually quite accurate. In france and spain they can't be bothered to write them out, and also in Florida I imgaine they all get eaten by crocodiles and the wall-to-wall snakes, so no tides there either. Typical UK officious types have nothing better to do than do tide tables, hence the tides.

Re: WHY.

Ah well you want to get yerself down to Plymouth. The tides still go up and down a bit, but not in and out allot. So still go nearly anywhere, all of the time. Haven't seen anything here that beats my theary. It's just like being on a swing. You push one way. Then the swing says. "What the hell am I doing up here". So it swings back. But. No. It dont stop at the bottom. It goes up the other side. Then like as if you were the moon. You sort of push again with your legs, and it goes up the other side. Same with the tide.

Have you sent off Your Stamped. SAE and cheque. Yet.
