I buy a new fender and within 4 or 5 months it goes sticky around the top, i try to clean em,and within weeks its as bad, its makes a mess of the boat and i dont know how to stop it, just annoying

I have never seen them go sticky in 4 or 5 months normally 4 or 5 years for proprietary makes.

Fender lines splice them with an eye and loop the tail of the line through the eye of the fender, buy sausage fenders with and eye at each end and turn them end for end each season ( ie rope at other end)

I have tried cleaning them but when they go sticky bin them and start again.

End for ending will double the life.

Plasticiser migration accelerated by UV light and heat; more direct heating at the top of the fender, than at the sides. PVC is a "hard" plastic made "soft" with things like phthallates. talcum powder and he like stop the exudate being sticky.

I had this problem in the Med. I cleaned off the goo with white spirit, then used some T-Cut I had lying around, then used some white T-Cut Colour Magic to give a tougher outer 'shell'. It was a lot of time and hassle, and it would have been easier just to bin them and buy some decent, branded ones, and fit fender socks.
