Why do classic wooden boats look so good at night?

As a classic wooden boat owner (and maintainer), I'd say it's because one can't see the 'to-do' list that the harsh light of day exposes.

As a fellow owner, I can be the first to attest to the truth of this. Mine looks perfect on her mooring on a still, moonlit night.

Likewise elderly cars, I was advised to only photograph during twilight as they looked their best then.

The other night was a clear full moon and there was a twin masted classic yacht a couple of boats down the quai... the wife said I should go look at it as it was quite special (and probably photograph her)...I said I couldn’t be arsed...I’m glad I didn’t now..?(?)
