Re: The age of Reason.

Hyde Park was packed and I had climbed on top od this van for a better view.
I looked round and there was Sir John himself sitting there as well.
we chatted and years later when I was a record plugger I would see him at the \beeb and we would reminiss the concert.

Captain Beefheart

Now there's a talented guy. Makes several of the most influential (and weirdest) albums of the '60s and '70s and then embarks on a second career as a painter - and not just a celebrity artist but one that the heavyweight critics swoon over.

Sickening, that's what I call it.

:o)

Meant to add: I saw him at Knebworth in the mid '70s, on the same bill as the Floyd (who were, frankly, fairly mediocre), but not one of his best moments, I think.
Edited by jhr on 20/11/2003 09:17 (server time).

Re: IOW 1971(I think)

Re: IOW 1971(I think) - for Jimi Fans

Oldgit Meets Jimi (and Mary) Among the Stars that Play With Laughing Sam's Dice

It was a Long Hot Summer Night when he met her with the Gypsy Eyes
"What is your name Angel? he asked." (The Wind Cries Mary)
"Wait Until Tomorrow" she said, meantime come and light my Fire
"You know you're a Foxy Lady" Oldgit said she leading him into the Red House
The Burning of His Midnight Lamp - Wild Thing
"Darling can you see my signals turn from green to red"
Oldgit cries "Mary!"

Through the Purple Haze he awoke beside the Voodoo Chile
Tyre tracks across his back
"I got better things on the other side of town" she said
and led him through the Crosstown Traffic past the Castles Made of Sand
"Hey Joe" she called as the door opened "Here is someone to meet Jimi"
"Can You See Me" he heard Jimi call to him while singing

"After all the jacks are in their boxes
And the clowns have all gone to bed
You can hear happiness staggering on down the street
Footsteps dressed in red
And the wind whispers Mary"

The room was full of stars playing dice with Laughing Sam
All revolving around wrapped in a Star Spangled Banner
The morning was dead, the day was too
Was but a dream

Oldgit awoke and rose to dress
"Fred dear, how did you get those tyre tracks on your back?" he heard his wife call.
Manic Depression!

>>> Is nice to know some Hendrix fans still out there.

Re: IOW 1971(I think)

My agency booked Hawkwind to play in the Cowdrey Hall in Aberdeen in 1971/2? Cost me £25 and we sold the tickets for 20p. Great gig and great memories. Unfortunately, some b'stard stole a mike which cost £35 so they were out of pocket. One guy got busted 5 times during the gig for smoking joints without any drugs in them (must be an Aberdonian thing /forums/images/icons/wink.gif).

Re: IOW 1971(I think) - for Jimi Fans

Maybe the Jimi refered to was Jimmy Page, not Jimi H (as JH played IOW 1970, weeks before he died)? While a long way from here, I guess both the Hendrix and the Led Zep played sometime at Isle of Wight. Maybe you can tell me.

Who cares, they are both great. Amazingly, in the face of the current stuff aimed at them, my kids both enjoy Hendrix, Led Zep, Who, etc.

There must be some way outta here, said the joker to the thief.

Re: IOW 1971 and a bit of Bob.

Yes, that would have been a good ending! Didn't think of that despite Hendrix probably doing the best All Along the Watchtower ever too.

I am told there is going to be another Isle of Wight music festival June next year. I think maybe the 1970 one was the last one, but not sure of that - as I said above we are quite a long way away here. Wonder who will be there?
