I'm guessing its the through deck thingy that you can put round a cable that's already in place.

To be fair to Plastimo, Ed's mystery bit is part of an assembly that costs £24 ex-delivery. The part is not available on its own. The Plastimo roller reefing range is well priced for small boats compared to other brands - or at least used to be last time I looked.

Twice I have found 'bits' on my deck which in the end decided they did not come from me or my immediate neighbours, and could only assume someone had lobbed them on the deck, perhaps for a bit of a laugh. Pretty irritating, especially if you are about to set out for a significant passage.

It was a joke.... I am of the bent that whenever anybody says " gee that's a bit dear( whether it is or not) I say " its not if you paid attention in school". The inference is that if you paid attention in school you would have a better job with better pay so things would be more affordable to you because you have more disposable income.... I myself did not pay attention in school, am not well off at all and my jokes are not funny, apparently.

What is difficult to understand is how that piece fell off in the first place (once properly installed).
It would be interesting if the OP advised what type of furler he has. I note he has not installed a halyard diverter, I wondered why not, He advised it was not in the parts he installed, implying it was not installed because it was not there (or not Plastimo).

How exactly to repurpose it ?
Alchemy aside ( makin’ a quick £30), I think it could be jammed on a shroud to ease the leach of the foresail across the spreader end when tacking .. but then you would need another storm to bring along another one for the port side ?

I also liked it - it was healthily convoluted - and made, some, people think.
However I do think your logic is flawed - there are many who, obviously paid no attention in schools, and as plumbers, sparkies or offering AF services - seem to be well heeled (no offence intended at anyone here).
