Who displays their small ships reg no. on their boat?

I just registered my boat and received the relevant documents by post today. However, it explains for me to display the SCR no. on both sides of the hull, near the transom to the rear, and also one on the transom. Of the top of my head, i cant recall seeing anyone else doing this? If i do this, will it look a little ridiculous? How many of you have displayed your registration no. on your boat?

Look again and you may now notice them.

Don't remember the positioning requirements 15 years ago - this may have changed so you may need to look at other places other than those you have stated.
 
I have always displayed the number. On my most recent set of instructions it says " This must be painted on, or fixed to the exterior of the hull, deck or superstructure where it can be readily seen". I've always chosen to put it on the exterior bulkehad alongside the companionway.
 
I think most people display the number on the transom. I always thought the other possibilities are offered as alternatives, not "as well as".

In 3 places? Where did that come from?
I bought my boat in Holland 2 years ago and when I received the SSR documentation in July 2007 it said......
"This must be painted on, or fixed to the exterior of the hull, deck or superstructure where it can be readily seen"........
This means in ONE place.
It was exactly the same as when I registered my previous boat 15 years ago.
So are you saying things are different now?

Just for the record, the numbers only have to be 30mm high. That's quite discrete and shouldn't worry anyone. Just go to some other European countries and see how big and ugly they are there. Just another example of how lucky we are in England despite what many seem to say!
 
Are you Irish registered?

I suspect most people are answering on the basis of the UK SSR where you're supposed to display the number in certain sized numbers.
 
I write as follows, exactly what it states on the instructions that came.

Vessels over 7m display as following.
1 no. to be displayed either side of the hull or coaming which is:
on the aft of the hull as close to the transom as is practicable
outward facing
above the waterline when both stationary or under way
not greater than 15degrees from the vertical as measured when vessel is stationary and in both loaded, and unloaded states.
not to be obscured by equipment or crew
away from any exhausts or places where staining might cause obscure the no

One other to be displayed on the transom outward facing

(and it again states all the above criteria for this one also)
 
Not me, I have a proper reg No carved in the main beam as it should be /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

None of this "small ships crap" I've got a proper British ship, with a Royal warranted ensign too. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

You are confusing the Irish Small Craft Register (SCR) operated by the ISA with the MCA Small Ships Register (SSR). As an Irish citizen (and presumably resident) you cannot register on the SSR so presumably you have registered on the (similar) SCR. The requirements for showing your registration number are different in Ireland than in the UK.
 
Well, um, er, unlike the rest of these extremely responsible chaps, have to admit that ours was nearly worn off when we bought her, & I haven't done anything about it yet (a year later). Honest, I promise, I'll do it this weekend /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif
