Who displays their small ships reg no. on their boat?

[ QUOTE ]
Not me, I have a proper reg No carved in the main beam as it should be

None of this "small ships crap" I've got a proper British ship, with a Royal warranted ensign too.

Oohh, I did enjoy that

Yep us too even the warrant for a defaced blue. Sometimes however in foreign ports where Customs go walkies on sunny days they tend to pick on those like us with no cheapo plastic letters stuck on SSR style, in the hope they will find an unregistered boat to fine.

Really nice thing is we can tell all those usurpers with the same boat name that OURS is the only proper one!

What is the offence they will fine you for? Exactly how much is the fine? Is there a fixed penalty? How much is the fixed penalty fine?

And mine ...

I used Car Reg'n plate stick-on numbers - bit big though !! I shall be changing to smaller to make look better later.

SSR doesn't transfer with the boat. It refers to the owner.
New owners need to register in their own right.
[ QUOTE ]
Registration on Part III of the Register lasts for 5 years. The date of expiry shows on the ship’s certificate of registry. You may apply to renew the ship’s registration up to 3 months before the certificate expires. Registration ceases immediately if a ship is sold or any details change which appear on the certificate of registry. Where this happens the registered owner must return the certificate with a brief explanation of the circumstances of any change. You must also notify the Registry of any
change of address.

It is advisable to display in Europe.
Equinoxe ( not having a transom) has her small nºs in front of the helmsman.
If you display what appears to be a port of registry you´re not likely to be asked for documentation but it doesn't cost much to display SSR.

I hope you didn't carve it too deeply, and weaken the timber !

Plus if you do not delay too much - you can usually get SSR to allow you to keep the previous SSR number but with updated details as yours. I've done this on each boat of mine I've bought and had no problem keeping the previous SSR number.

Ours is on the cockpit side of the transome on an RYA (I think) hardwood plaque. Never had a problem with any officials anywhere ........... so far! Definitely won't display it outboard unless I start hearing of substantial fines etc, as we don't want to start looking like the poor Spanish yotties who can have anything up to a metre of lettering on EACH side of the bow! Hideous!! /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

That is a myth, I am afraid. To quote Condition14 of the Permit - it is no longer a Royal Warrent.

"Foreign Cruises. When cruising in foreign waters a Yacht for which a Permit to wear a special Ensign has been issued should take care to avoid any action which might result in complications with a Foreign Power."

The mind boggles! Anyway I wear a Red Ensign on the backstay and usually the Blue when in port plus of course my Club burgee below the courtesy ensign. Nobody has taken offence, although because it is new old hands might call us arrivistes because it should be worn faded in the Med sun!
