(I used to drool over Rileys, TF's, TR3s and Healeys but had to put up with an A40}

No mention of working boats which where in many cases the model for yachts,personally I quite like traditional Scottish fishing boats and of course the pilot cutters

Chuck Paine designed my boat - well, my boat's hull - based on Scottish fishing boats. This is a picture he took of them:

Below the waterline his version is decidedly non-traditional (semicircular hull rather than wineglass, NACA aerofoil section long keel) but the result is very pleasant to sail. I didn't nominate the design for good looks because it is, frankly, a bit Tonka toy rather than classically pretty.

I was tempted to start a 'counter-thread' of the most ugly designs ever built. I was going to kick it off by nominating the Macgregor 26.....

Contessa 32. Yeugh.

Agree about the Macgregor 26, but i always though that the contessa 32 a nice looking yacht, along with the Invicta 26. beauty in the eye of the beholder and all that.
