I brought a Noordsvaarder 92 about a year ago. She is an all steel multi-chined boat with a short stubby fin keel. She is 9.2 meters long, beam of 2.5m and draught of 1.2m. I am trying to find out as much information about her as I can as I plan to circumnavigate after refitting her. I would appreciate any information or pointers as to her builder and also any specifications. Thank you in anticipation.

When we began looking at steel boats in Holland we looked at several Noordsvaarder 9.2s. they appear to be a well built and tough little ship with a number usually for sale on the www.botenbank.nl web site, we also bought a Dutch boat about a year ago, though ended up with a vintage van de Stadt. As far as I can remember the Noordsvaarder was built at a number of yards, though you would probably get a lot more info on the above Dutch site. regards, Mike.

"Noordsvaarder" was designed by Langenberg. He still designes nice ships. (Has his office in Heerenveen) The ship was built by Moedt, this yard doesn't excist anymore. I think it was in Uitwellingerga near Sneek. The name is from the north west part of the island Terschelling, it's a impresive national park now. So it's not a Dutch boat but completly Frisian; designer builder and name)

Hi,

That you've picked the Noordsvaarder for a circumnavigation does not surprise me at all. I'm planning to do that as well with a Noordsvaarder although on some forums the typical Dutch steel ships from the sixties and seventies (some eighties as well) are said to be for inshore use only. Indead I do not expect BOC capacities but the multichine has proved to be very strong and cheap. My question to you is waht could you say so far about the Noordsvaarder as you've probably sailed it to the UK and are sailing it right now? I would be very happy if you could and would keep us a bit posted about your experiences as I would like to do the same thing with the same type of ship. Besides that I will translate some articles about the Noordsvaarder, extracted from Dutch magazines for you as well.

Best regards, Mick
