Whick Toolkit?

I have taken Vyv’s excellent adVICE (sorry!) and it just arrived. I knew there was a reason why Camper and Nicholson cabin tables are absolutely bomb proof!

I do carry a Camping Gaz blow lamp but Paul Rainbow has made me promise never to solder an electrical connection ever again! He even frogmarched me to Tool Station and told me what crimping kit to buy!

I wasn’t suggesting using a blow lamp to solder! I’m not quite that much of a bodger. More sealing rope ends or even heating seized bolts and nuts.
Although, thinking about it, do have a mini flame that’s been useful for soldering heavy starter motor connections.

I wasn’t suggesting soldering with the blow lamp! But I think we can all relate to this, which was posted elsewhere by a Chief Engineer friend:

I haven’t noticed anyone mention a soldering iron yet. I just have a 240v type but I do keep wondering about a gas powered one. Also gas blow lamp. I use Duck oil on all my tools, fresh spray every year. In a marine environment they are always going to suffer.
Aldi do a small portable vice, dirt cheap and does the basic job.
Even with my limited knowledge have found a gas powered soldering device useful plus have used a small portable vice for holding bolts etc while cutting so quite handy if space permits

For sealing rope ends, I have a jet lighter. I can't remember the make and I certainly don't remember buying it, so it probably got left by one of my kids. It provides a good small but powerful flame in any wind I'm likely to be sealing ropes in and there's no way it's previous owner's getting it back!

One of the small gas powered soldering iron kits is at the extreme left of my pic, leaning against the companionway frame. There is also an old heat-up type just below the socket set. I use the small kit quite frequently, both for soldering and cutting rope. It's a long time since I used the heat-up one but it has been handy thanks to its higher heat capacity.
