I've got a tiller extension with "golf club" grip which doesn't feel too strong and the grip is a bit small.
I'm looking at the extendable Spinlock- type extensions but was wondering what views anyone had on the 'spade' handle as opposed to the flatter grip - only for cruising

thanks
Frank

Depends on size of boat and type of sailing, I guess. For racing smaller boats and dinghies a golf club type extension is probably best. For cruising and where tiller loads are higher these are tiring and they give me cramp in the hand.

I have had a couple with right-angle grips, both open and closed, but I now have one that's called a "Friend" which I find to be excellent. It's an open type with a clip that fastens to the cockpit side(s) and an adjustable telescopic arrangement in the extension shank. The handle can be attached to the clip, length adjusted and the tiller holds in this position while the helm goes awy to do something else for up to a minute or so on my boat. There's some info here but it doesn't look exactly like the one I have.

Anyone know where in Europe I could order a Spinlock extension mail order? I've tried searching and my usual online chadlers but not found anywhere yet.

I had a straight wooden tiller extension on my boat (Kelt 8) I changed it for a
Spinlock asymmetric with the ring-type handle. Expensive yes, but what a difference in handling. It really is a pleasure to use, and if you are hit by a strong
gust of wind you have a good grip in a more ergonomic hand position. You can even use both hands on the grip if required.
Regards,
Phil

I'm looking for one too - but not at the cost of an arm or a leg!. Any cheaper versions out there?.
