Someone from Ocean Safety told me today that ACR now do a combined PLB/AIS device - but i can't find it on the internet..

I understand that although it is technically possible to make one it is not approved for use because it comes under 2 different regulatory authorities.

The battery life needs to be taken into account when comparing value for money. I chose the Ocean Signal PLB1 which has a 7 year battery and is also very small.

The ACR resQlink PLB reviewed recently in the yachting press has the reassuring feature of informing the user that their distress signal has been received.

Hmm. What do you do if you don't get an acknowledgement? Shout louder? Tell yourself that it is probably the acknowledgement system that has failed and someone will be along shortly?

This is the inside of my 2016 ResQlink at two years old. It self actuated, fortunately when I had a mobile signal in a marina so I could reassure the Spanish Coastguard that all was well.
It was worn inside the outer cover of a Deckvest LJ so was not subject to any undue wave action.
What annoyed me most was the dismissive attitude of ACR when I complained about the premature failure of their safety device. It was only after I threatened the retailer, Force 4 (who was blameless), with legal action, that I received any meaningful response.
Got an Ocean Signal RescueME now which feels better built, is smaller and hasn't failed after 4 years.
