Which phone to buy this year?Anyone used nokia??do they all fall apart

K750i

Is well specc'd up and the camera has a compound, focussing lens, worthy of a 2 M pixel camera.

That's where a lot of the money goes. The picyures are half decent, for a 'phone.

Re: Motorola Flip

Don't burst my bubble! I was just getting used to having a nice compact easy to use phone with a screen I can read, keys that are big enough for my stubby fingers, an on/off switch that doesn't need a marlin spike to operate it and looks pretty as well. Now you tell me it can change and go sulky on me? Now come to think of it a phone that knows when to shut up, that REALLY is a nice new feature! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Re: LG

It's trouville to whom I addressed the reply. Your stated requirements are purely cheap calls, his are for reliable data connectivity.

Hope you get your cash back. VAT are currently preventing VAT reclaims on the amounts being 're-imbursed' by re-sellers.

If you manage to satisfy the cashback requirements, hopefully they will still be in business when your turn comes.

They are falling like flies!

Re: LG

Convenient feature.

Always try to make a positive out of a negative.

Make sure Mrs. Robin (or whoever is appropriate) knows this can happen occassionally. Then when required, just don't answer the bloody phone!

First of all get real!!!!!

Battery. Colour screens and constant Bluetooth polling EAT battery life.

Bluetooth also has issues with just about every manufacturer. It is a comms. protocol and it took the PC software industry 15 years before modem drivers didn't make your mouse run in circles or your printer excrete droppings!

All the industry (and WHICH? - UK consumer / campaigning organisation) find Nokia to be most reliable BRAND, but there are of course model exceptions.

Look at Nokia 6822, well proven, has fold out keypad and built in e-mail client so these can be handled without PDA if required. It is a competent dataphone with B/T connectivity (cables available if preferred) should you wish to use with a PDA.

Nokia 6021 has similar capabilities, whilst omiting radio, camera, keyboard and e-mail client. Should be fine with your PDA.

Your PDA may require an update however. Things can move on in these industries.

Nokia wireless keyboard is only compatible with Nokia phones with Symbian based O/S (Smart Phones). In this I have little faith, I prefer Sony-Ericsson's implementation of this, in P910/i etc.

As for pricing, this is a complex industry. As soon as someone interferes with the market price (handset subsidies), someone else will get an angle on this. The sort of prices you are quoting suggest to me that a network somewhere has been ripped off, having given a subsidy out on a handset that has generated them no income, and the handset has be re-marketed. It begs the question whether the handset software and therefore warranty is intact, or indeed if the correct country settings are present - all of which can affect your 'enjoyment' of the product, particularly if you come to need detailed technical support.

But I wish you good luck in your search!

Re: First of all get real!!!!!

I've always had nokias and I hate having to change them. All I want to do is make phone calls on them. The one on the left (don't know the model number) was the best - and my nephew tells me I can still use it if I switch some chip back from the current orangey one. If nokia made the one on the left with an FM radio in it, it's about the only phone I'd be up for.

Why not buy a phone that is a PDA: see the XDA here from O2 for example. Or as an alternative to the ubiquitous Nokia you could also investigate something like the T-Mobile SDA - still Microsoft so easy to use. Both of these will give you GPRS & USB connectivity & email access and their web browsers work pretty well so you can get weather reports too.

I currently use a SideKick II from T-Mobile - and have three email accounts delivering direct to my phone.

If you live in Cumbria or are coming here to visit, Vodafone is the only service with good coverage.

These days they all do much the same thing. And the all have roughly a two year lifespan (in terms of physcial endurance and battery life etc).

But for my money Nokia has the best user interface and I can switch from one generation to the next every 2 years without reference to the manual.

That does it for me.

Nokias are very good and being a teenager i went through the phase of going through all different types of models to stay in fashion when i was at school. Saying that i never once had a problem with Nokias. the only problem i had was when i was in the boatyard and dropped it and the Hoist ran over it. (good job it was insured) Any of the new nokias that are all singing all dancing are good i recently upgraded mine and had a play at some of the new models and they are impressive. some do most if not all of the requirements that you are looking for. i have had Sony erriccson, Samsung and Nokia and Motorola and i have to say i would definately not go back to Sony, Samsung i would consider and Motorola DEFINATELY NOT! my motorola blew up while sending a message, small puff of smoke and a bang! what is also handy is the fact that my friend has a nokia on Vodaphone and he is a fisherman and he goes 25-30miles off shore and he still gets a signal so handy if you go out to sea.
Hope this helps

Sarah

Microsoft SmartPhone Software and Windows Mobile

Yup, Microsoft. Buggy, high in overheads, eats battery and memory.

I have never been satisfied with an SmartPhone, in comparison with some of the alternatives.

Meanwhile, beware of the XDA's. The basic version has volatile memory. Let it run flat and you will loose everything that you can't recover by running a restore from your PC. No easy feat when long term cruising.
