You are wrong, absolutely no similarity. 1) my genny sits on top of the lazarette (stern cockpit locker) when in use with the exhaust piped over the stern. 2) At anchor or on a buoy the stern lies down wind. Tied up along side - no need for the genny so no issue with wind direction and CO.Why would we on this side of the pond be interested in anything coming out of the states particularly from a bunch of Industrial Hygienists?Who is "we" - the BSS? - another bunch on interfering *******s9 over 20 years Hmmm...½ a death per year oh god we must have draconian regulations to prevent this terrible loss of life - get a life - more people die from slipping on the soap in the shower or bath - better ban showers, baths and soap as well Well yanks are not the brightest of folk so what else would one expect = anyway there are plenty more of them to replace the morons who cannot think for themselves - Darwinism at workWhy would we be interested in anything the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has to say, we are not part of the good ol' US of A, well we weren't last time I looked.Ah, that answers my earlier question. Well I don't think I need to tell you what to do with your little rules and regulations. I for one do not use the inland waterways so have nothing to do with the BSS or their "enforcers". I have been "messing about in boats" for over 50 years and do not need some trumped up little git telling me what is safe and what is not. It is high time all these little groups were disbanded and people left to get on with their lives. Wrapping people up in cotton wool and regulations is not the answer. We now have a generation who think nothing can happen to them - they are 100% safe because of all the rules and regulations in place and still accidents happen.
People need to be allowed to think for themselves and look out for their own safety and not be spoon fed. If anyone was moronic enough to run a petrol genny below decks or in a locker then they deserve to be removed from the gene pool and not allowed to breed.

Well said sir.

Does make you wonder how many lives are saved by these petty organisations soaking up funds. I would lay a fair amount of money that the money would be better spent on many other things such as funding additional medical research or procedures, more air ambulances, better first aid training etc etc.

Trouble is the "something must be done" brigade would be up in arms over the loss of such "valuable" life saving schemes advising people not to breathe in carbon monoxide.

seems a good summery to me
after an YBW campaign lat year i fitted a Co2 alarm, just common sense as they cost so little, to date mine still shows zero readout

Mine too. Have one by the cooker and one near each heater outlet just in case exhaust gas somehow gets mixed in. All still show 0 despite using during the winter with the washboards in, hatch shut etc.

Slightly worrying that BSS are suggesting we use a generator at least 20 feet away from any hatches, portholes etc.

How many boats have a 20 foot length of hull with no openings on it.

I suppose I could put one in the dinghy and hang it 20 feet off the stern but personally I would be worried about the 20 feet of cable from the generator to the boat and the wisdom of dragging cables with mains voltage through the water.

Ah, the magic words - "common sense" something we are not allowed to use these days what with all the petty rules and regulations floating about, no wonder common sense is dying out. - I too fitted a couple of CO detectors on the boat "just in case" as they are so cheap and i don't fully trust the Eberspacher exhaust not to leak (new exhaust 2 years ago - old one broke.
Back to the OP's question - do have a look at the Kipor range or the Hyundai range or other suitcase type "silent" gennys. Kipor spares are available in the UK and Kipor supply the workshop manuals for their gennys as a free download - try getting a workshop manual for a honda - snowball's chance in hell.

I have little experience with generators so treat the following with more than a regular pinch of salt:
Agreed, you have SFA experience when you come out with the **** below...
There is another potential problem with generators ... Honda generators have a controlled output.
So does the Kipor, What is your point?
The response time of the generator controller to suddenly increasing load is very important.
Hence having controlled outputs as do even the cheaper inverter gen sets
My circular saw is rated at 1800W but generally will be drawing 500W or so. If I start cutting a heavy piece of timber it needs to draw a large current quickly without a voltage drop. I don't think the Hondas would have a problem
Yes, you do not think, where is the evidence for your comment? - do not post on subjects you admit you know SFA about .....
but the cheaper ones may well do.
Again I ask, Where is your evidence to support your statement? you are talking out your arse - the internals of the honda, Kipor, hyundai, etc are from the same supplier and to a large extent are interchangeable. I have never had a lag problem with my Kipor even going from 0 to 2kw - response time is extremely good - better than my big static Diesel genset - got to wind her up gently otherwise she coughs and splutters for a second or two if suddenly loaded to near capacity. You don't happen to be a sales rep for honda?

Yep that's the one. I wouldn't run it near anyone because I'm a considerate person. Unless they said to me I better not
