I am looking to buy a petrol generator. Does anyone know if a 2kva generator will power power tools such as sanders etc please
Cheers

I have a Honda eu10 1Kw which runs sander, grinder, jigsaw and drill no problem. And takes a unreasonable amount of abuse without complaint :)
Will purr a way for hours powering a 20a charger.

Plucking some power consumption figures out of the air.

Standard drill 500W
Jig saw 600W
Belt sander 800W
Angle grinder 500W
Soldering iron 60W
Orbital sander 550W
Circular saw 1350W

But all electric motors use double(?) the power consumption on start-up so I don't know what would happen to the generator if you tried to use the circular saw because your 2kva generator would only produce about 1600W. Maybe your belt sander would kill (stall) the generator?

Maybe one of the experts could explain?

I do fin fit confusing. Seen a 1.5 kva on ebay for 250 quid which looks quite good. Wouldn't be using for sanding much in all honesty. Just like it to be able to when I wanted

Don't buy a generator unless it is 4 stroke. I found a 2 stroke on the dump; I fixed it up but I wouldn't use it on the yacht because " it is 2 stroke so noisy and smelly and tends to accumulate an oily mess around itself" .

Yes I agree. Two stroke smells like my youth but now I'm old 4 stroke is just easier

I need to make a decision. Something I'm hopeless at. 1.5 kva four stroke @ £250 or a 2kva 2 stroke at £200. Dunno what to do

Well I would not buy EITHER of the units mentioned.

If you want something that is quiet and reliable the Honda 20i is the way to go. Yes it costs more but is the energiser bunny of suitcase generators.
You're right but it's way out of my price range
