Which glue?

Thanks to all. No quite sure which glue Vara sees as the professional's choice.

It did make me wonder as well.

I have used most of the alternatives:

Cascamite is great because you can buy a small tub and it lasts well, in the shed, if you keep it dry.

Gorilla type foaming stuff is excellent, but a part used bottle will tend to thicken and not keep well.

Epoxy two part, like West, is superb and seems to remain usable forever.

Epoxy would be my pick. You may have to buy more than you need, but you could be still using the same pack in 20 years time. It can bond and encapsulate and can be used to fabricate all sorts of structural stuff. Get a big pack for future use.

I'd use a foaming PU. I used Balcotan - sadly no longer available, but Gorilla is of the same ilk. I wouldn't use epoxy if you expect the grating to flex at all as it's walked upon - it's too brittle. Cascamite actually doesn't claim complete waterproofness, and no gap filling. Mind you, my experience of foaming PU's (or PUs if you like) is that they might fill gaps, but the foamy bit ain't very strong. My grating is done with Balcotan and has lasted ten years so far. However... I've seen so many gratings fall to bits that I cheated and stuck a woodscrew up into each intersection from the underside.

I am a fan of all the adhesives discussed above in their right place and have copious stocks of them in my workshop.

No I'm not sure now either:)

What I was contrasting was the I've done this all my life approach.( I wish I could emulate those skills), to my hapless amateur stance.

I think that epoxy would be the easiest to apply and use, I've never managed to use gorilla glue without over foaming and staining, but where used when aesthetics don't matter it has done the job incredibly well.

O level woodwork...failed.
Would you trust this mans opinion on wood glue?:p
