Which Flag?

The citizens of Norn Iron will appreciate your dillema and not expect to see any of those. unless of course you want to make a political statement or start a fight in a pub. The second one down is NI and recognized by Unionists the fourth is the flag of the nine counties of Ulster and should please Nationalists a bit better. N. Irish yachts visiting Britain use a red ensign just like the rest of us or more sensibly just ignore all this fleg nonsense. The EU flag would be rubbing salt in the wound. and the Celtic Nations flag is too big.
Of course if you are sailing under a Saltire they all respect that but no courtesy flag is going to please everbody.

Lots of boats fly the saltire from the port crosstree when visiting Scotland's water, even those from our southern neighbour.
That is where the Pan Celtic flag is really useful and very welcome in Brittany.

I carry courtesy flags for the Netherlands, Belgium, France and Ireland. All countries that I have, and do visit on my boat. If Scotland becomes independent, I will, of course, get one of theirs should I ever head up that way. As for the rest. No thank you. Where do you stop?

I used to do that when I sailed out of Carrickfergus, though I later learned that like most small Saltires it was the wrong shade of blue, but flags are fun and while probably without purpose are a distraction from more serious interests. I have a big Saltire now for the stern which I used to fly when visiting N. I. last year I flew it in Scotland to reassure the natives that I was from only a few miles away, and to wind up any passing Unionists.

Will you be starting an anchor thread ?

You might be healthier ?

I must be doing something right. I just filled in my census form and it made me think about my state of health. I couldn't answer anything but "I'm in excellent health". Made me realise how lucky I am really when I see all around me people on medication etc. Haven't seen my doctor in about 15 years. Perhaps its all the preservative in my pies :ROFLMAO:

As an English registered boat, whilst I am in Scotland I fly a saltaire from the stbd cross-trees; unless I am up in the Shetlands, when it is replaced by their flag - silver nordic cross on a blue background.

As for national and regional flags - I have too many!: France, Channel Islands, Cornwall, Spain, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Faeroe's, Iceland and a few others....

I have an assortment, from Ireland to Poland, but the only regional one is a Normandy one we bought in 1978, when we got the impression that it helped our reception once or twice. Wearing a Cornish one would just appear twee to me.

We sail with the Scottish Saltire, and when/if visiting Shetland, fly the Shetland flag at the crosstrees. It tickled me enormously once, when the Shetland Times newspaper, referred to us as "visiting from Scotland". ?

How do you become an English registered boat?

I find flying anything featuring a Union Jack rather twee to me. But each to there own I guess.

Kernow bys vyken!
