Be wary of lanyards. Wave will be tossing you up and down, and if it catches on a prop while free diving.... I'd rather have a knife I don't care about dropping.
You could tie the knife to the boat instead.

Don't confuse the two scenarios, with MOB it is an unforeseen event, if you want to cut webbing a wavey edge clasp knife that you (certainly I) would normally carry does a job.but cutting a beefy rope round a prop needs (common and popular suggestion, and effectively what I used) a common place bread knife - nothing fancy, nothing expensive.
Keep it handy, keep it sharp.
So - the fancy dedicated knives sold for yachts don't cut it (sorry) - when you have a rope round the prop - it makes me wonder about other emergency applications.
There is no way a bread knife is applicable for a MOB wanting to cut her, or his, tether - do the other options actually work in real life?
