I need to change the anchor on my 27 ft Cobra Bilge Keeler. (Similar to Colvic 26 Sailor)- My dodgy back can't cope with the 35 lb Danforth which came with the boat when I purchased her over 20 years ago. In all those years it has never dragged (unlike some of the vessels anchored nearby) but it has got to go as it won,t stow when raised by my new electic windlass and lifting it onto the foredeck defeats the object of fitting the winch. 35 lb was over the top anyway for a vessel of this size & displacement.
I was thinking of a 25 lb (11 kg )plough but don't want to spend £300 + on genuine CQR. - Are they that much better than the non-forged copies e.g. 12 kg plastimo plough for £50? or should I be looking at a different style altogether that will hold at well as my old heavy Danforth?
Sorry if this subject has been discussed before.
Must work on various sea beds.
