For info....in my search for an outboard, I was actually told by a Suzuki dealer that the throttle linkage is the only difference between a 4 and a 6hp!
Cant remember exactly, but he mentioned something about
fitting the linkage in the alternative position, but to do this means cutting the existing end off the cable and fitting a replacement end (available from bicycle shop!!! He reconned this woud be about a 20 minute job.
This may make more sense to those who own the motors?
On ours I dont think you would need to alter the cable. The throttle arm on the carb is restricted in its movement by the stop. The shorter stop on the 6 would allow more movement.
if I get over to the boat tommorow i will attempt to photograph it and post it on here.
re the noise factor. Our Suzuki 4 stroke is considerably quieter than our old 2 stroke 5 hp Yamaha .My kids found the yamaha noise unbearable with their more sensitive hearing.
I'd agree about the noise, I bought a Suzuki DF4 last year and I reckon it's quieter than the Honda BF2 I had before. Nice little motor and they were doing a spring fitting-out deal at the time for £500 at participating dealers.
When I bought the Suzuki the dealer popped the top off and showed me the throttle-limiter screw you can remove (or adjust?) to increase it to 6HP once it's fully run-in. I haven't tried yet as I haven't used it much but will give it a go this spring.
That's amazing! Good photograph - thanks. The wee L-shaped throttle stop even looks like it's got "4" written on it, to make the engine a 4hp... Damned clever!
