I can recommend Lofrans in general. Have the second one of them on my new boat and none has ever let me down. You can have many sizes, nad a choice of capstan or horizontal.
Also there are models that allow you to combine chain and rope, which may be useful for you to save some weight. I heard it works reasonably well, but have no experience with it.
I have the same problem!
I nearly decided for an "Horizon" from either Simppson-Lawrence, or Lewmar, which are probably the same, at least look exactly similar.
Unfortunately, I found several very bad reports, on the West Marine site.
:-(
Thus start again!
Unfortunately, I don't have enough room for a Vetus Tiger, and don't like the enormous hole to be made into my wooden deck to accomodate the motor of the Vetus Picus, or any vertical windlass. BTW, Lofrans and Vetus look very similar, and most probably are identical.
I'll second that - my Lofrens is 27 years old - starter motor brushes and comutator renewed - but thats all. Had dread full experiences on other boats of Simson and Lawrence - lasting 2 years.
