The bag for my original lifesling has disintegrated but the sling, rope etc is fine. Trying to source new bag and although I can get one from America the cost of shipping is as much as the bag and I therefore would be better off buying new. May have to make my own bag somehow but was wondering if anyone had any idea where I might source one in the UK or Europe?

Maybe one of the bags made by 'Blue ' for halliard ends etc might work ?

If the bag has "disintegrated", presumably through UV action, are you sure the sling and rope have not been affected as well. Pulling a MOB back is a bad time to find they have. Replace all with new they are not that expensive, and don't leave on rail when boat not in use.

I bought a replacement about 5 years ago from West Marine in the US, and shipping was quite a lot. I think that, faced with replacing it today, I'd just get one custom-made by a sailmaker.

Thats the beauty of the bag as the sling and rope is totally enclosed and does not suffer from UV degradation. It is lined with hard plastic so no rays can penetrate.

The sling and rope is as good as when first bought 12 years ago.

I opened up the bag on my 'new' boat and took the floating rope out.
The first foot of the line dsiintegrated into fibres and powder. The floating line is probably polypropylene which can be very UV sensitive

The edges of some of the bags are not good at covering the line, and of course the part between the bag and the tie point is vulnerable even if covered by an outer braid.

Even if you think it is OK, check with load on it and cut off the first few feet if there is ANY doubt.
