Where to locate a gyro?

I will try to post some pics of the installation on this thread as it progresses
Please do. I for one am curious to see more about the installation process.

A few thoughts:
1) that's really a perfect placement for the thing. I didn't even think to suggest it because by heart I would have sweared that it was conflicting with the genset. But if it fits, great.
2) on top of fuel tank valves and g/boxes, doesn't it impede also the access to shaft seals, which IIRC are already hard to reach? Just saying.
3) ref. lifting the cockpit floor, I never looked carefully on your 630, but it's actually a reasonably easy job in several other V-drive Ferrettis that I inspected more carefully (165, 175, 57).
Probably worth doing without even attempting to go through the access hatch, risking to hit something along the road!
Btw, I've even seen one of those boats which was modified, installing some hinges along the stern side on the whole floor panel and a couple of electrohydraulic pistons along the sides.
This way, any e/r maintenance job becomes a mechanic dream, "en plein air" at the push of a button.
Man math would suggest to give that a thought, in the context of the gyro installation... :encouragement:

PS: if by chance your and JTB route around the Alps will include Lake Como, give me a shout. Btw, it's a stunning road to make by bike!

No, the genset is on a shelf well above where the gyro will be located

Correct it will impede access but on the other hand they are PSS seals so they shouldnt actually need regular maintenance as such, only regular inspection. It is also possible to access them from outboard of the engines but either way the gyro is going to make them more difficult to reach. Probably a good idea though to get them inspected, cleaned and any worn parts replaced before the gyro goes in and then hopefully the PSS seals will outlast my time with the boat

I've never had to do it myself but yes it looks like a reasonably easy job to remove the cockpit floor and yes probably it would be wise for the yard to do that but they're supposed to be the experts so I have to leave it up to them!

I think you've just planned our route for our 2018 Alpine bike tour:D. What do you think JtB?

The seakeeper that is being fitted to my prestige 500 is being fitted in exactly the same place. Under the genset, with the genset on a shelf. To fit it they have removed fuel tanks (and some other bits) but the engines did not need to be moved. Less room in the engine bay as I have a tender garage. Other than that should have it all done in next few weeks!

Sounds good - should be all done by the time we've chased each other round the Alps again...

Er I think thats by the time I've chased you around the Alps or more likely given up chasing you;)

How refreshing to see two healthy, middle-aged males being so open about their off forum activities....even if a bit left of centre but, please stop playing hard to get:encouragement:;)

Hey, we're middle-aged men who met on the internet. Nuff said! :D

Hey, I only guaranteed a stunning bike road.
If you are hoping to involve George Clooney in your chasing games, I can try a couple of phone calls to check if he'll be at home, but I can't promise anything! :D :p
Just say when, anyhow! :encouragement:

Well, sorry but my only neighbor celebrity is George...
...who is rumoured to have flexible habits anyway, so to speak.

Given non-brexit road systems my advice would be to stay mostly a bit right of centre.?
