As heard from Dover" Coastguard about 14:00 today during ch16 conversation with Volunteer about kids jumping off Landguard pier

Ok, so our coasties won't know every nook and cranny around the coast, but local knowledge of even the more major locations has definitely not made it to Fareham.

So you have been warned, give Lat. and long. with every urgent message.

That is awful but it would be better to describe its location at Felixstowe or Harwich Harbour. Generally one can only, in an urgent message, give your own Lat and Long rather than somewhere else.
If there was some consistency in who answered a call to the CG then that CG might learn the area. The loss of local knowledge was always going to be the problem but we were lead to believe that this would be compensated for by better coordination and communication. Pah.

I was close to Landguard at the time, I listened to all that, and as an ex (volunteer) CG I was appalled.
Quite apart from the content, I cannot think why the whole sorry saga was conducted on Ch16.

I heard that today too. Plus someone left their mic on transmit somehow. And a few mindless radio checks on 16 as usual.

I got back to Shotley yesterday and deliberately left the VHF on 16. I may have missed them, but I didn't hear any MSI announcements. The open mic was a poroblem. During the dayand evening I could hear 'Dover' announcing Channel information and Ostend Radio with their weather announcements

On the way in, overnight I heard 'Humber CG' dealing with a RoRo that had engine failure East of Shipwash but I cannot recall any MSI announcements for the Thames Estuary area.....

I'm on board for the next couple of days and will listen out again

I was out on Monday and heard some MSI's. Didn't note the times, but after one of the lady CG said there would be another one "in about three hours". Bit vague compared to the watch setting regularity that they used to be.

I think that was the same one that said the date was 29th October....
