Actually, Jim, when we were there, about 6 years ago, they'd just taken delivery of about 10 boats - I can't remember what type - they were out on their first race so we never saw them. A phone call came in - one navy team had run their brand new boat into a sandbank at 7 knots. There were a lot of very sarcastic remarks about navigation! We left before they knew whether the boat could be salvaged. They obviously have a fleet of HRs now.

Not a lot of chance to take pictures - wind was in excess of F5 for 6 of the 7 days. My crew consisted of a Comp Crew Mate who didn't know much at all and 5 complete novices so first couple of days were VERY hard work. I managed to rip 3 mainsail cars out of the mast just above the 3rd reef but managed to keep my mast on the boat which 1 of the 10 didn't on the passage race from Als Fjord to Faaborg.

Day 1 was just sailing locally and back to base. Day 2 to Sonderborg. Day 3 round the can racing in Als Fjord before a passage race to Faaborg. Day 4 round the cans racing in the lee of Avernako before cruising to Aeroskobing. Day 5 was an independent cruise to Damp (and it was ......... very!) so I introduced my crew to coastal navigation rather than GPS copying and had a long beat with just a bit of night sailing on the end! Day 6 the Crew (with only safety advice from Skipper ) had to race the boat to Stande. Day 7 round the cans outside Stande in a very pleasant F3 - 8 races and we started to get the hang of it too ending up with 1st in the last race . 5th overall out of 10, well 8 if you discount the boat without a mast and the boat that had a serious grounding outside Faaborg and had to be lifted out for an estimated 25k euro repair.

The 10 HRs are 4 years old and all been sold with a new fleet of the same arriving very soon.

Great set up and fantastic staff.

I am pleased to report that on this trip the 2 Naval Skippers were faultless in their navigation. The boat than had problems with lack of water was Skippered by a civilian qualified Cruising Instructor. I thought the West Cardinal on Knastegrund on way into Faaborg was easy to see but passing the wrong side in a F6 from the west, a 1.8m draft and 0.6m water makes a bit of a mess of keel and hull. I didn't have the camera to hand when she was lifted out.

We hope to be there next May. We have an invitation to join a friend at his place on an island in the Limfjord! I'll add Aeroskobing to the list - we didn't go there last time.

Did you go to the ship in a bottle museum at Aeroskobing? Amazing volume and quality of workmanship. Also the Danish pastries there I reckon are the best in the area, and the others aren't half bad!

You didn't happen to see a knife in the harbour? My 8 year old son dropped one over the side one supper time a few weeks ago. Clearly visible in well over 2m of water. Bit better than the 2 inches visibility you get over here.

Bar at BKYC is excellent value, bought a round for my crew (6 students and me) for under 10 euro! We had a BBQ on the day last evening, then breakfast and lunch next day before flying home - food great and no charge so maybe was covered in the cost of chartering the 10 boats.
