Where is it

Walton town centre

Is this Walton on the Naze, by Bedwells yard, bow on to the road?

Spot on Shamal, I eventually found this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ViimwVmYuxM which shows the location in much more detail. Very East Coast. I am really enjoying this "Keep Turning Left" series - not so much "Around the World in 80 Days" as "Around Our Coast in 80 Years."

bumma

that means I will die before I finish - ah well

The boat is now on the Alde - aiming to stay afloat right through the winter and go sailing once or twice a month - whenever wind guru tells me that we will get some sunshine

. I am going down tomorrow for three days and two nights - the east coast should be quite bracing

I am planning to post something every friday - and a proper made KTL once a month through the winter - made from my experiences on the walton backwaters, stour, orwell, deben, alde, ore and butley.

They've been great video's so far and been very inspirational for a chap with a small boat looking at doing something similar in the not too distant future.
Though the one featuring Brightlingsea got me on my soap box as i'm moored there over winter and was astonished how much of an eye-sore that new 'Marina Development' is.

Between you and Nathan (OnKudu) it's been the most interesting stuff on Youtube for me.

cheers,

Nick

start this year

Just do it -

waiting for the right time is leaving it too long. You have to accept a level of inconvenience

but I have to say that moving the boat around from yard to yard has been much easier than I thought

The most I paid was £50 a week at ramsgate and Woodbrdge

the lowest was the medway £10 a month for a drying pontoon with power....

google earth has been brilliant for locating the right boatyards

they have been great - the bogs have often been less than fragrant - but I can live with that

The biggest expense is petrol for the travelling - and I guess the current N reg polo will eventually die

right now its about 3 hours between bucks and aldeburgh-

so I can get to the boat - sail that days, spend a night, all the next day and then get in another days sail.

But when I get to Scotland then that will become a serious schlep and an expensive one at that

still, the old james and stone yard was not what anyone could call a lovely building

You're right Dylan. There's always reasons to put things off if you deliberate enough.

I'm not too concerned about 5-star facilities. Often some of these more 'bare to basics' places are fantastic places to stop.

Well once i've sorted a few financial issues and made a few necessary 'enhancements' to the boat, i'll start my travels a bit more seriously.

If you're Polo is like my L reg BMW it'll probably never die. Just get a bit shabby round the ears.
