Where is everyone?

Not much of a trot, more of a shuffle. There was no mobile signal in places, so I was careful not to stumble.

Don't forget that even though you have no mobile signal to your network provider, 999 calls to the Coastguard (eg. for a seawall incident) etc. are picked up by all network providers so it is very rare you will not get an answer.

We were at Halfpenny Quay at Harwich on Sunday which I was expected to be rafted up but we got alongside on an inside berth fairly easily, plenty of crew to avoid damaging the motorboat we nearly hit... dRink and meal in the Alma and then back to the Deben. A good sail apart from when my Rotostay furler managed to unscrew itself and we had to tie it up - appears it's been furling in the wrong direction for the last few years - as I'd fitted new forestay over winter and serviced and greased the drum it unscrewed itself! Another job before the weekend.

We saw you leaving the Deben entrance on Sunday from the shore. Wondered why someone was on the foredeck.... Hope you get it sorted.

We too were in Pyfleet on Sunday eve .Saw you arrive in Shifta when you picked up the bouy ahead of us.
Commented how quiet it was for a June Sunday and Monday .
Saturday it was fairly busy off Osea and Marconi .Practised anchor dragging whilst kicking the anchor winch.
How does one deal with a Delta that persists in arriving at the bow roller upside down .
.For our trip back to the Swale .Not a single sail visible ,until off Whittaker when two North bound cats appeared .Then one more Carbon main off the N Kent coast .
In that case, you saw our first attempt, which was thwarted by the two ropes being so large that we couldn't do anything with them on deck. Plan B worked OK but necessitated our midships pickup system with crew lying on deck to thread our own line. So far so good, but getting a woman with a replacement knee back to vertical again isn't easy.

Our return this morning was easy enough but we arrived at Pye End only 1/2 hr after LW, which was OKish, with 0.3 under us, less than I would wish in blowy conditions, peaking at 29kn off the Naze. Oddly enough, there were quite a few sails out today. It is clearly the oldies than know how to live.

A good memory? I have seen a pic perhaps from that brochure showing a scantily 1970's dressed young lady holding her arms out to show the wide beam ( beamy for that era) there are still a fair few sailing,

fair winds

Clippers were the height of sophistication when we started cruising from Heybridge in 1971. There was one called Guines Clipper (spelling?) which may still be around, and Tambaroo has been in the Colne for many years.

Gone west with the wind, but winds not helping for the return trip, mind you there are worse places than Dartmouth to spend a few days.

Sailed from Brightlingsea to Calais on 24 May. Since then been to Gravelines, Dunkirk, Ostend, Roompot, Scheveningen, Ijmuiden, Amsterdam, Mukden, Hoorn, Volendam and now in Monnickendam. Outline plan to go back to Old Blighty mid July to see the Children then off to France to be in Le Harvre by about 7 August. Train to Paris as my man is running a half Marathon there on 11 August, then back to The Netherlands by the end of August.

Not seen many British flags since leaving Calais.

Edam, just round the corner from you, is quite nice to visit. We have stayed at the yacht club near the meer and they are very welcoming. It is a bit of a hike to the lovely town but we have bikes. You can also stay at the canalside in the town but facilities are very limited, though I think there is power at the far end.

It is on the list. Frisian Islands are high up on the places to visit too but may have to wait until next season, don't know where the time goes!
Depending on how much time you have, Harlingen is one of our favourite places further up, especially the yacht club behind the town. Makkum is good too, though the ceramic business is no longer open to visitors. There are moorings near the town, or even through the lock inside, with limited depth, but we now like the large marina and a cycle ride in. Hindeloopen is fun too, in a twee sort of way. It is yonks since we did the museum at Enkhuisen but people still seem to enjoy it a lot.

We have been in ZEELAND for a week the weather is just superb but I can't help thinking we will pay for it! Great marina in Yerseke mussels just superb. We are in goas for the weekend leaving Monday to slowly go to willimstad. If you see Colne clipper give us a wave !

Been in Dieppe for a few days. Very nice. Originally planned on Holland but the strong NEly put paid to that so we came South. Had our fastest trip ever just under the genny to Ramsgate. Plan now is to get up to Ostend and hope the NEly come back to give us a decent sail home.
